Running WinXPH and PM8 -- after some system errors I have two partitions, C and L, with WinXPH installs on both. PM reports that C is the primary/active partition, but I have confirmed that I am actually booting into L. PM reports that L is primary but notes status as "none." I would like to either remove the Windows install on C, or delete the entire partition, such that I only have one Windows install/instance. I STRONGLY prefer to keep the setup on L. I also hope to end up with a "normal" setup with Windows on "C". However, the last time I tried to repair this problem I ended up with unrecoverable BSODs and fatal system shutdowns. I do not know how to proceed.
How can I manipulate the setup through PM or other such that I only have one Windows installation, currently on partition L, which is primary/active, and labeled "C"?
Additional info on request.
All help appreciated, THX JLJ
I can't understand why you want to boot from Drive L:. When you boot from Drive L: it becomes your Drive C: anyway.
Perhaps you want a dual boot system?
Here's a link on Microsoft that explains how to do that:
http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&form=MSHOME&setlang=en-US&q=dual+boot&x=0&y=0
I don't know if you have any drive letters between C: and L:, but I don't trust Windows' being able to handle gaps in drive letters.
You can remap (i.e., basically rename) your drive letters using PM, but with all the errors you say you're getting, I'm not sure anything will work other than a reinstall.
Are you able to back up the drives?
