Detailed description: Both Edge & Chrome browser, the extension is now requiring a sign in on each laptop start up instance. Option for vault to remember for 7 days is selected.

Curious, is this new behavior since 8.3.0.1361?
Did you try clean install 8.3.0.1361?

“Keep my vault unlocked for 7 days” setting is intended to survive browser closes and normal PC restarts/reboots for up to 7 days. Norton specifically says it keeps the vault unlocked for that period by storing unlock keys locally in the extension.

A few important caveats though:

• It currently only officially applies to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows.
• It may not behave consistently after:
  • browser updates
  • extension updates
  • clearing cookies/site data
  • security cleanup tools
  • signing out of the browser profile
  • some Norton updates
• Some users on Norton Community report that it survives browser restarts reliably, while others say Edge or Chrome occasionally relock the vault after reopening or rebooting.

Norton Password Manager 8.3.0.1361 — the feature should still function similarly to 8.2.x. There is no indication Norton removed the reboot persistence behavior.

One thing to note:
If you use Firefox, Norton’s own documentation does not officially list Firefox support for the 7-day unlock feature.

Security-wise, Norton warns that leaving the vault unlocked stores unlock material locally, so they recommend a strong Windows password or biometrics.

For the 7-day unlock to persist reliably in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, these settings generally need to remain friendly to extension/local storage retention:

• Do NOT clear cookies/site data on exit
  • Chrome:
    • Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data
    • Make sure “Delete data when Chrome closes” type features/extensions are OFF
  • Edge:
    • Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data on close
    • Don’t clear cookies/site permissions automatically
• Allow the browser to continue background processes
  • Chrome:
    • Settings → System → “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed”
  • Edge:
    • Settings → System and performance → “Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed”
  • This is not always mandatory, but it can help extension state persistence.
• Avoid strict privacy cleaners
  • Utilities like CCleaner, BleachBit, aggressive “privacy” extensions, or some cleanup modules in security suites can wipe the local encrypted token Norton uses.
  • Since you follow Norton discussions closely, this especially matters after cleanup/optimization tools run.
• Stay signed into the browser profile
  • Signing out of the Chrome/Edge profile can invalidate extension storage/session data.
• Do not use InPrivate/Incognito-only extension mode
  • Norton Password Manager should run in the normal browser profile.
• Windows Fast Startup usually does NOT break it
  • In most cases Fast Startup behaves like a hybrid shutdown and the vault state survives.
  • But occasional inconsistencies after Windows updates or crashes can still force reauthentication.
• Browser sync/reset features
  • “Reset browser settings” or profile refresh operations often wipe extension persistence.

Also important:
Norton’s documentation mainly supports this feature on Chrome and Edge under Windows. Firefox behavior can be inconsistent because Mozilla handles extension persistence/storage differently.

In normal home use:

• Browser sync ON → generally fine
• Password Manager extension synced → generally fine
• Vault staying unlocked across reboot → usually still works

The bigger causes of failure tend to be:

• browser cleanup tools
• cookie/data deletion on exit
• browser profile corruption
• extension updates
• privacy hardening extensions/settings

So sync itself is not commonly the culprit unless something about the synced profile changes significantly.

fwiw ~ as test:
Installed Norton Password Manager 8.3.0.1361 on Chrome 148.0.7778.97 + “Keep my vault unlocked for 7 days” enabled + “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed” enabled.
Upon machine Restart and after waiting for desktop to settle — call Chrome — “orange triangle” initially and after a moment vault unlocks.

Caveat: Chrome clear cookies/site data off. Chrome sync off. Passwordless Vault Unlock off. Google Password Manager off. W11 Fast Startup off.

Sorry, it is an orange triangle and not red.

As for 8.3.0.1361, This problem started approximately 48 hours ago and am unaware when the current version was installed. Will attempt reinstalling the extension when I am next using the laptop. Something I should have done before now.

I primarily use Edge but tried Chrome as a test.

@Joshua_Stewart The orange triangle indicates the vault is NOT unlocked. It will always show in the new extension this way while the vault hasn’t been unlocked. A coding bug maybe, but it appears to be more so by design.

The Vault is now remembering my sign in between laptop startups. Both Edge & Chrome functional without me having made any changes. Perhaps, I just need to be patient in future for the issue to resolve. Lots of great information posted in reply to this issue and will definitely refer to in the future should there be an issue.
