People posting with malware problems

Hi, all. I guess this is as good a place to post this, as I asked Quads a question on the Malware Forum, which has been comprehensively answered.....

Hi F4E

I assume that you're referring to the following thread:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Malware-Discussion/COMPUTER-ILLITERATE-BUT-NEED-HELP-BADLY/m-p/1027067/highlight/true#M5216

Message 6, in the thread above, highlights a major problem with censorship, that occurs on the 'Malware Discussion' board:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Malware-Discussion/COMPUTER-ILLITERATE-BUT-NEED-HELP-BADLY/m-p/1027689/highlight/true#M5226

The Norton Community Forum boards are globally annexed by what I refer to as the 'Coleman Charter' (Dave_Coleman). Given that, the censorship described above cannot be condoned.

An open question to the Norton Community; what are your thoughts on this?

elsewhere,

You object, I don't.

The missing post you reference does not show that the edit was performed by a moderator or administrator.  In other words, it appears that Quads deleted his own post.  We all have an hour after posting to change our minds and edit or delete our posts.

Elsewhere,

if by that you mean that the blank message is unacceptable censorship are you aware that to the best of my knowledge it was blanked out by Quads himself since it has         [ Edited ]  added to the Subject line.

When text is edited by a moderator the Edited has always been in red, includes the name of the moderator and is on the line with the date/time stamp. Quads had the power to open and close threads also as was clear from the past.

It's quite possible I am wrong about what happened or perhaps I am misundertanding the point you are trying to make?

Sorry about the duplication but that post was not there when I started .... <s>

Quads had some of the added rights of a moderator while he was working the Malware Discussion board. He was not limited by the 1 hour time limit.

It appears that Quads was also given the right to edit other users' comments - See Phil_D's post here and the following footnote:

Edited by Quads
Restored to original state by Tony_Weiss

I hope that Symantec steps in soon and either gives malware removal experts like Quads the ability to lock everyone except the original poster out of threads or shuts down the Malware Discussion board althogether.  What's going on right now is unacceptable for people waiting for malware remediation and hurts the reputation of the entire forum.

I believe this is something that Norton would gladly do but the Lithium hosted system which is not created or serviced by Norton does not have this feature  .....

I'm not at all familiar with how forums work, but would like to put my two cents anyway.

Given that here it is not possible to lock "intruders" out of threads, what about a warning on top of the Malware Discussion Board?

May be in bold, warning that any posts from other than the OP would be (immediately) deleted so as to avoid any interferences between the OP and the malware removal Expert?

Just an idea, FWIW...

Edit:

The same warning at the top of each thread (each page of the thread) as well?

Based on Quads' recent post here in the Malware Discussion board, it appears that he is now re-directing Norton users seeking malware remediation to a new malware removal forum at http://qmalwareremoval.freeforums.net/board/2/malware-removal-protected.

Does anyone know if this is Symantec's endorsed solution to the "one user / one malware removal expert per thread" problem, or has Quads just taken matters into his own hands?

Hi,

There is no connection between Quads new site and Symantec / Norton. He is the creator and administrator of that site and so far as I know it runs on his rules the way he wants it.

Stay well and surf safe

It has been created with the Malware Board being protected with "Thread Starter only reply" (and certian ranks).  I had fun creating and setting up the protection as to start with I even had myself block from other users threads.

Stops the likes of being told to use a program what should not be able to deal with the stated detection name or being told to use other tools by who ever.

I also did some other coding tweaks, including on what one noticed was a problem in IE and Firefox so added code to get around that problem on those browsers.

Maybe I think we should do that sort of thing for Govt's  that way there is now one in a govt that causes problems that only ends up hurting the people, cos they think they know what they are doing.............................  hahahaha
