Permanently removing my Norton account online

I had Norton installed on a previous PC but now don't need it on my new one. I had to phone support to request that my account be completely deleted online. The first operator cancelled the remaining 6 days of current subscription and thought online accounts could not be removed. Then he said the technical department could in fact do this. I was put through to them and after some inexplicable difficulty understanding my simple request, told me this had been done. I retried entering my account and of course this hasn't been done. I have recently received genuine subscription reminders from Norton and a whole lot of spam too. Is it that hard for a major internet security company to understand that not only do I not wish to renew but I wish to not have my details and order history lying out there in the ether? Why isn't there a simple button to delete an account? I've been through the hoops you make us jump through but the account is still there. Can you please remove it? I don't want to go through the whole palaver again. I've done what you want now please close the account. It's simple really. Anyone else come up against this stupidity?
