This morning, just after rebooting to incorporate a Windows Update, I received a message telling me that I had 3 days to reply to an email from Microsoft telling me that my Windows Live account had been terminated and would be completely wiped. I was obviously alarmed as it seemed that the email had been activated by the Windows Update and not by me.
As it turned out it was sent by someone called 'Badawi' who seemed to be saying he was the SAS!
The Norton software did not pick up the fact that the return address was not Microsoft and this was only revealed by me examining the message source.
Can Norton amend its software so that if the sending address is not the same as the direct bracketed return address, the email is queried or blocked?
I have reported this message to the City of London police.
thanks
