Please bring back the Network Security Map feature

I have followed this thread for over a year now. I did not allow my N360 to upgrade due to the removal of this feature. However, they have now made the cost of renewal too high as the cost of purchasing a new version is $30 cheaper. Here is my issue. I have a neighbor that has no f'n clue how to configure a network. He has wireless cameras all over his house that are pinging every network in the neighborhood. I have set my router to reject access to those damn devices. Unfortunately they actually connect to ANY wireless card, so they keep connecting to my laptop!!!!! The only way I knew of this was through the Network Security Map and only Norton allowed me to block access.

I also have 5 computers using Norton with 2 in kids rooms. That was the easiest way to verify if those computers were current, without having to run all over the house.

Norton...listen to your user base and bring this back or lose your market share.

Hey Guillaume.  The solution to the issue is not to produce yet another wireless router in the marketplace that is already flooded with very good products but to FIX the issue in their software.  Why do you believe that Norton (a software company) has any expertise in providing a hardware product?  What makes you believe that they won’t abandon it once they find out what it takes to support hardware sales?  After all they have showen us that they simply abandon customers by ignoring our issues.

Follow this thread sporadically in the now lost hope that Symantec might pay attention to their user base

Why would i buy another really stupid looking device !! to put on a desktop/shelf I have spent years decluttering ??

LOL: Design is appalling: no idea about efficacy ... not even looking....

Already have excellent HW from companies with long established, fiercely fought for and cherished reputations for equipment and SUPPORT tailored to my needs, mostly I might point out purchased when it became apparent Symantec was losing direction and trashing the user base it was built on.

No problems wirth evolving better products, but this is not it...

regards

I am so surprised no one from Norton/Symantec have made a comment here. It is one of the highest posted on subjects on this part of the forum. As JST-DLM says above, how are we supposed to mount another piece of equipment in a rack of the proposed shape, and its also not available until later in 2017..??..!! I already have a good quality router/modem with 24 ports. This is aimed at the small home market obviously, but what about larger homes, small and larger businesses?  This was software that's already written and included in product sold previously - the reason for me buying the product, so why not re-instate it? We were not informed part of the product we purchased was going to be removed in an update (sorry - down grade)...

I read in one reply that it was because no one used it. The many replies here are from people that have taken the time to register on this forum and it represents only a small percentage of users that take the time to come onto these forums to give their views, so there must be thousands that DID use it.

Okay, this subject is now getting quite old, and I subscribed hoping that we could get it back - very unlikely now.

Sure, let's give the non-responsive company a lot more dollars because they took away something that a lot of us used. As I've said before, I've been with Norton/Symantec since the original Norton Utilities. It appears that I will be finding another source for my security. I have already added Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Anti-Exploit, and the Anti-Ransomware beta and make offline system images of each new W'10 update.

Sad to say, but it seems to be the norm these days that existing customers get short shrift and all of the corporate effort goes to getting new customers. They seem to think that we will never leave. Directv and Century Link found out that I have limits and Symantec will find out the same.

And exactly how are we supposed to install that thing in a rack or even on
a shelf with "normal" box-shaped equipment? Like switches (3 ports only?),
the MODEM (!), and more. Norton needs to hire a
usability/ergonomics/equipment specialist and get rid of the trendy graphic
designer who came up with this.

Good evening,

I am not convinced by your most sharp comments today.
The Network Security Map feature was actually very interesting, even quite un-operational and ultimately pretty little used.

And yet for me, Norton listened to us and did not remain inactive.

Indeed, I wonder if finally the release of Norton Core with the following features will most certainly be a smart way to meet this demand and a effective way to meet your needs ?
+ OT device protection
+ Network level protection
+ Mobile-app network control
+ Security Score ...

We will know more soon.

They remove useful features, make the product look uglier with each new version, and don't even bother to defend these changes. The decision to stay with Norton keeps getting harder to make.

Look at all the posts. Norton isn't listening. Why continue if they're not. We're  frustrated and pissed at corporate complacency.

Wow. Two years since original post and no action.

HELLO!!!!

Add me too!

Well - since Norton does not want to address this issue - I decided to address it for them.

I did not renew Norton subscription and went with mcAfee.

Like has been said, the network map is not used that often, but went to use it today to sort out some conflicts and its gone. A very useful feature removed. Thanks Norton. Another excellent decision - NOT!

Sky box lost it's lan connection today, first port of call was the Network Security Map feature, where'd it go!! not happy!

I have gotten all our PCs (6) up to Win 10 with McAfee Internet Security installed.  Got a full network map back automatically and I didn't need to have two maps (network and trust).  It picked up everything on our LAN even if it didn't yet have McAfee installed, (2 kindles, 2 iPhones, iPad, 3 tablets, and 2 Linux network file servers.)  We've got two Granddaughters that spend a lot of time with us.

In addition the subscription is for an unlimited number of devices.  I have several tablets, the iPad, smart phones, and a Linux machine to install yet.

They also provide REAL telephone service for the product itself but I had to get a supervisor to talk about combining wired and wireless network segments.  He cleared it right up for me.

Let's see if they pay any attention to this post and delete it!  Good luck to all you remaining Norton users.

Auf weidersehen

Back in July of 2015 I wrote:

"This is another vote to bring back the Network Security Map! The Network Security Map was great! I used it all the time and it was an important part of my network security! Why would you take it away in the first place?? Listen to your customers, Norton. If this feature is not brought back, I will begin actively searching to replace Norton on all of my pc's, laptops and other devices".

Many other Norton / Symantec customers have taken the time to post here asking that the map be restored. No one from Norton has even deigned to respond in this thread of customers. I have been a Norton / Symantec customer since 2001. I am the computer tech for my family and my extended family.  The subscriptions on all of my devices and my extended family's devices, from desktop computers to laptops and tablets, are beginning to run out next month. That's a total of 15 different devices that run Norton / Symantec on them.

Listen to me Symantec: I am done. I am keeping my word. You have lost us as customers. I will not be renewing any devices with Norton / Symantec and I will never recommend you to anyone. Bye bye.

18 months and not single comment from Norton... my product is shortly to expire and I for one will not be renewing it.

I've just "upgraded" to the latest version of Nortons on my main Desktop House PC so it was in synch with the other devices on the network. But now the Network Map is gone. And Norton call this an upgrade?
I have been a loyal Customer for many years and have advocated Norton to many others, but this is likely to change now that this useful and to me essential feature is gone. :-(

How else could I see who is connected and what trust level to give them????

Bring it back or loos e Customers

Why remove a feature so many found useful?   Was there a security problem?   Removing without a comment is kicking your customers in the face.

add me to the list of people who want the network security map back!
