Some of you may remember me from another thread.
I've had numerous issues about viewing certain sites all because of advertising.
Now I understand some advertising is bad. A person can go to a website and some advertisements might be a half cleavaged chick trying to get some people to play a game called Ebony or whatever.
I understand there are some advertisements trying to get people to sign up for Personals
But there has to be levels of advertising that the system blocks, otherwise why bother?
I've had Norton Safety Minder for 4 months + now; and 90% of my "Allowed Websites" on the list is being blocked because of a category I had selected. Now it is to my understanding that regardless of the category you selected "allowed websites" mean just that; it bypasses your categories and allows you to view the site.
Today in question is Oregons Northwest Cable News @ http://www.nwcn.com/news/oregon
Upon loading the page; which it will load. Yes there are some advertisements:
Chevy Cruze Vehicle 42mpg highway
Google Offers (beta) looks likes maps though
Those look like the only 2; after disabling Advertising let me pull up the link (s) that I wanted to view
Oh; maybe its Flash Advertising that Norton has an issue with? (main site didnt give me flash advertisements)
First link was a Flash Advertisement to again "Chevy Cruze"
Another link had advertisment about Mt Ranier Spring Retreat
Hmm also looks like theres some small picture links thats associated with "autos", "degrees" (school), "home refinance", and "auto insurance lowering"
You are right; I dont know how Web Filtering works, I dont know if when a page gets loaded it could block only certain types of advertisements, perhaps this is just wishful thinking I dont know? But theres my dream..........having a program that will block only certain types of advertisments
Anyhow; I have disabled 'advertising' in my settings until better updates are applied to Norton Safety Minder. I do appreciate your product though and will FOREVER look forward to using it :)
