hi john_o_no - sorry to hear about the problem. i'm not sure that you'll be able to rectify this without uninstalling (probably using SymNRT), but you might try an reinstalling NIS and add-on pack over the top of the existing program. it's slim, but worth a shot.
also, did the system start to slow down after installing NIS or was it add on pack that appeared to be the cause?

hey john_o_no
I hear you about not wanting to uninstall the whole NIS 08 program. From your description, it may not be Norton AntiSpam that is the cause of Outlook Express not opening. Can you give me a little more info.
How did you remove Norton Add-on Pack? From Add/Remove?
What was Microsoft's explanation for Norton AntiSpam being the source of the problem?
I have replied to poster
Thanks ppl's for replies , Ricky the problem is since installing Add/On pack, computer has slowed down considerably so I decided to uninstall pack using Add/Remove programs as stated closed down live update and NIS protection, then restarted puter..
When I went to start O/Express it refused to open I was given notice Outlook Express needs to close as stated previously and this is constant even after shutting down and rebooting puter a number of times. This has only occurred since trying to uninstall add on pack from add/remove
When it prompted me to send fault to Microsoft I did this and was given reason that the fault cannot be resolved by MS and fault was caused by Norton Anti Spam and then advised me to contact Symantec hence me asking how to resolve problem.
When I re-opened NIS it still shows Anti Spam on system even tho it won't open as grayed out. I hope this has given u enough info seems the only way is uninstall NIS08 totally and reinstall something I didn't want to do . I am not that brilliant in technical side so was hoping for an easy solution if possible..as I can see problems in uninstalling & reinstalling NIS 08 with activation codes etc
I have both Product serial #, and Activation key #. recorded.
Thanks in anticipation John K ,Time delay in replying due to being in Australia :-)
Looks like add on pack did not uninstall cleanly. Search your system for the following file: asoehook.dll. If you find it rename and see if it fixes your problem.
Thanks for your assistance JK ,yes I found and renamed file it has solved problem. I am so relieved whew thanks very much BUT.do I delete this renamed file or leave it..??
Plus I found heaps of other antispam files in Symantec Shared folder folder how would I delete these as puter denies me this option as saying access denied files in use.when I tried?
Thank you
Cheers John_o_no
hi John_o_no - good to hear that renaming the file solved the problem. with respect to the files in Symantec Shared, I might recommend placing them in a safe location from a Safe Mode boot until you can verify that they are, in fact, not needed.
