Comcast has been offering Norton Internet Security for MAC free to MAC subscribers since sometime in January, 2010.
I have three customers I am trying to help with the following problem. They have tried to uninstall the version they originally downloaded and install a "newer version" which will not present the exirpation problem outlined below.
Our Admin posted the following on: Dec 3, 2010:
Customers that downloaded the Norton Mac product before 3/30/2010 will receive a product expiration notice starting on 12/7/2010 similar to the message below:
These customers were among the first to download the Mac product prior to the launch of the Comcast/Norton cobranded version that automatically renews. Customers that receive this notice should be assured that the Norton product is still available at no cost to them. To continue free Norton protection, please uninstall your current product and install the latest version available at http://security.comcast.net
One of the three posters provides detailed feedback:
I also have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times and I still get this dialogue box.
I noticed that the version being downloaded and installed (Norton Internet Security 4.2r11) is dated March 25th, 2010.
Is this not the same version that was available prior to the March 30th, 2010 date that is given as the reason for seeing this expiration notice?
My first question is:
Is this poster correct - is this in fact the older version being downloaded for the "Comcast Customers"?
If so, then I will need to get Comcast together with Norton to sort this out as the download comes from Norton Liveupdate (Norton_Internet_Security_4_Mac_EN.dmg from liveupdate.symantec.com) as linked on the Comcast site.
I really need some answers as to the correct way to uninstall (there is a link on the Comcast forums to Norton to accomplish this), but it does not include the NRT (is it even needed for MAC?). Also the folks who have tried this more than once with what appears the outdated download - do they also need to run the NRT prior to installing the latest one?
Am I correct in assuming there is a separate Comcast NIS for MAC download, (as there is no expriation date involved) - just like NNS for Windows?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm sure the MAC users @ Comcast will appreciate answers.
I wonder what Norton's feelings are in regards to having Comcst MAC users asking questions on this Board???
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.
