Hi,
I installed Norton Security 2012 on my computer a few days ago. Unfortunately, my computer just crashed recently and as a result, I had to re-format the hard disk and re-install Windows 7. I want to install Norton Internet Security 2012 on it again, but I fear that I will use up my second license on this same computer if I install it again. Right now, when I try to install it, it asks me for product key. If I put it, will it use up my second license too? Or will it just continue the first one that I activated when I first installed the software on this computer before the format?
Please help me.
Thanks
Welcome
As long as you install on the same computer, no additional installs are used.
The easiest way to reinstall is to go to your Norton Account and click on the Download button beside your current subscription. This will download and install a preactivated version of your product.
I have the CD already in and its asking for the product key. What should I do? Since all three licenses have the same key, if I enter the key, I fear it will use the second license too.
Hi,
Firstly, if any trial security program came with your computer it will need to be thoroughly removed with it's removal tool before you reinstall NIS. If you tell us what that program is we can provide a link to the removal tool.
Reinstalling NIS12 on the same hardware should not use an extra activation. You would be best downloading the latest version from your Norton Account. Sign in and next to your product is a download button.
Remember to run Live Update, rebooting where required, until no more updates are available. If something strange happens and it does use an extra activation you should contact Customer Support. Live Chat is usually the quickest. You can reach them at http://www.norton.com/chat.
Please let us know how you get on.
Thanks, Dave.
I just checked and the computer comes pre-installed with Norton Internet Security 2010. It isn't activated as its asking me activate it.

OK,
I would uninstall by the Control Panel, reboot and then run the Norton Removal Tool and reboot again. After that is complete you can sign in to you Norton Account to download the latest version which will be pre-activated.
Dave.
