I’m only able to answer part of your question about the transactions! I’m sure someone else will be able to answer the rest! Transactions doesn’t mean purchases.  It can also be signing in to online banking and other secure sites etc. Every time this happens, the number of sites protected will increase!

Hi McStick  :smileyhappy:

Thanks!

I Guess.... I just need to find out about my blocked programs now :smileysad:

I think something else is wrong, Norton is not so bad when it comes to identifying legitimate files,Infact we could say NIS2008 does not blocks many files as other Av's Does , norton has a huge database of files,

Other Av's may popup a lot

I haven't had any Pop Ups from Norton saying I've got an infection

I Really Think NIS 08 ... Is accidentally blocking part of these legitimate  3 programs

1/ My - Quickplay Software

2/ My Laptops - Track pad

3/ My - Bluetooth Mouse

These 3 Blocked Programs are listed in - Transaction Protection

All I know is...

1*

My Quickplay software has been hanging on Start Up from day one.

And Norton has the Quickplay Service listed as a Keylogger

Note!

Quickplay is the preinstalled software... Required for watching - Blue Ray Disks.

Music

TV

And other Media

I am supposed to be able to launch Quickplay without even starting up Windows.

I've Googled this problem -And found... I'm not alone!

2*

My Laptops Track Pad

NIS 08 also has my Track Pad listed as a Keylogger

3* My HP - Bluetooth Mouse

No wonder I had so much trouble getting it to install.

Note!

I had noticed NIS 08 pauses on my mouse when it scans.

Then it says - 1 Item Requires Attention

But the Item is only a - Tracking Cookie

I don't know what the Tracing Cookie was ... I just let NIS 08 - Fix!

Next time NIS 08 Scans... I'll check what the Tracking Cookies are.

Again NIS 08 ... Also has my Bluetooth Mouse listed as a Keylogger

Please can someone from the Symantec staff advice me what I should do?

Is it safe to unblock these 3 programs from - Transaction Protection

Thank You!

Hello Zana,

I'm researching this issue and will let you know when I have more information.

Hi Tim :smileyhappy:

Thanks!

Unfortunatly...

Starting to think no one was going to help me....

Just an hour ago... I - Un-Blocked / Allowed - These 3 programs

In frustration... I just didn't know what else to do :smileysad:

Did I do the wrong thing?

One Other Thing...

I also get a strange feeling - It's NIS 08 ... Freezing - Causing Problems ... With IE7 and Windows Explorer :smileysurprised:

IE7 works absolutely fine... Most of the time!

But once it's crashed - Once ... It carries on until I Restart the Laptop.

Why Do I Think NIS 08 Is Doing This?

Because...

When I Exit - IE7 it always Hangs slightly.

I know this is caused by NIS 08 ....

Because when I had N360 v2 on my Desktop computer ... N360 v2 used to cause the exact same hang.

Also...

I just get the strangest feeling NIS 08 is causing this brand new laptop ... Lots of silly little problems.

I do actually like - Norton :smileywink:

I just wish Symantec would get it right for once.

Where Norton is concerned ( Inc... NIS 07 - N360 - N360 v2 and Now... NIS 08 )...

I've had 12 months of nothing but stress ... And a large amount of waisted money :smileymad:

When my NIS 08 - Trial is over... I'll Give NIS 09 a chance.

But if that fails me...

I'm Afraid - I'll Have To Give Up On Norton For Good :smileyindifferent:

I hope it doesn't come to that :smileysad:

Thanks!

Hello, Zana,

       How are you?

Did you install anything before/after you Activated the Norton Product?

Maybe it is some sort of add-on?  Do you have any add-ons on your Laptop?  I know that the Google Tool Bar - which is an add-on -may cause problems.

You should only un-block Crimeware Protect blocked Programs if you know what they are; if you do not know, then leave them blocked.  If you un-block a program that you did not mean to, then Crimeware Protect be re-block the program if C.P. is On.

N.I.S. 2008 is an excellent Product, one of the best N.I.S. Norton has; N.I.S. 2009 is also excellent.  :smileywink:

I’m afraid I can’t help you much, but IE 7 has always hung slightly (maybe 1 second) after closing it on my machines with NIS 2007/2008. This is caused by the Norton toolbar.

Hi Floating_Red :smileyhappy:

Re : IE7 and Toolbars

Unfortunately...

My laptop didn't come preinstalled with the Google Toolbar

It came preinstalled with a HP - AOL Toolbar instead

Re : AOL Toolbar

As my ISP is actually AOL -  But I really don't want to install the AOL Software on my laptop....

( Reason : AOL 9 VR Software IS Not Fully Compatible With Vista - Even though it's supposed to be )

I have decided to leave the AOL Toolbar installed for now.

It just makes it that bit easier to collect my emails.

Re : Norton Toolbar

As you probably know from my previous posts ...

NIS 08 was active on my computer from the very beginning.

It was activated by HP as part of my initial - Computer Set Up!

So I suppose you could say...

The Norton Toolbar was also preinstalled on my computer.

Re : Google Toolbar

Yes! ... I do have the Google Toolbar - Now!

I installed the Google Toolbar approximately 5 days after having my laptop.

My problems had already started by then.

It's Not Fair To Blame The Google Toolbar :smileysad:

I always had the Google Toolbar on my old XP - Desktop Computer

Packard Bell

I Had NIS 06 ... And IE7 - Never Crashed!

I had NO Problems with that computer... Until I Installed - N360 v1

12 month old XP - Desktop Computer ... Died!

The next Desktop Computer ( The one I have now ) - Vista

Hewlett Packard

It came preinstalled with the Google Toolbar

It also came with.... Trial of NIS 07

NIS 07 stopped working after 3 weeks

I Installed - N360 v1 .... That Did Work!

But then I stupidly upgraded to - N360 v2 .... That Didn't Work!

On That Computer - I'm now using...

AVG 8 - Paid ( Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware )

PC Tools Firewall Plus ( Firewall )

SUPERAntiSpyware ( On Demand - Scanner )

Note!

The only time I've ever had IE7 crash on that PC ...

Was when I first got the computer ... And had the Norton Toolbar.

IE7 Didn't crash as often - Or as bad ... As my Laptop.

But IE7 ... Did Sometimes Crash

Since I've had AVG on that computer.

Inc... AVG Toolbar

Also ... Google Toolbar

IE7 ... Has Never Crashed!

New Laptop - Vista

Hewlett Packard

Preinstalled with ... AOL Toolbar and Norton Toolbar .... IE7 - Crash!

Google Toolbar - Came After The IE7 Crashes Had Already Started.

Hi Floating_Red :smileyhappy:

Me Again!

Don't Forget...

It's Not Just IE7 That's Crashed :smileysad:

Do you remember me saying that when I first got my laptop...

I Noticed - Crimeware Protection ... Was Turned - OFF

Well since switching... Crimeware Protection - ON

That's when I've noticed this Laptop become a lot more unstable.

As well as having a lot more IE7 - Crashes :smileysad:

I've Also Had.... Windows Update ( Windows Explorer ) - Crash! ... Stopped Responding :smileysurprised:

And...

When I Click On ... Start - Computer ... I Sometimes have to wait 10 minutes for it to - Load / Refresh

I never noticed this - Before I turned ... Crimeware Protection - ON

Perhaps HP left Crimeware Protection - OFF ... For A Reason :smileyindifferent:

Since turning it - ON ... This laptop seems to be much slower and much less stable - Than it used to be :smileysad:

Note!

Vista - Uses ... Windows Explorer ... For - Windows Updates

Thanks! :smileywink:

Hi Cytoned :smileyhappy:

Thank You!

For confirming - proving... That the Norton Toolbar causes a Hang when closing IE7 :smileysad:

To My Way Of Thinking...

If the Norton Toolbar can cause this - Hang on Exit of IE7 ...

It is also capable of causing problems - Opening IE7

And - Using IE7

Something else Zana,

On IE, you can keep the Norton toolbar enabled, but hide it - so it can't be seen -- but the protection it offers will still be there.
I'm not sure if this removes the hang when exiting IE, but it's worth a shot. You can hide the toolbar by right-clicking it, or next to it.

I use Firefox myself, and don't experience any hang when closing it with the toolbar enabled -- although I am using NIS2009.

Have you thought about trying NIS2009 to see if any of your other problems go away? NIS2008 is a great product, but NIS2009 is far superior :)

Hi Cytoned :smileyhappy:

Yep! ... I know I can Hide the Norton Toolbar :smileywink:

But I can't see much point in having it - If It's Hidden.

Also!

If IE7 was to keep on Crashing... While NIS 08 / Norton Toolbar is still Installed....

Hidden - or - Not Hidden!

I couldn't be sure... It's not some part of NIS 08 or it's Toolbar - Causing my laptops problems :smileysad:

I've thought about hiding the AOL Toolbar ... Because I don't use it that often ( Just the one button )

But Again... I can't see much point in having it - If It's Hidden

I'd have to un-hide it... Every time I wanted to check my emails.

Google Toolbar - & - IE7 Toolbar ... Are In Constant Use

Love Em!

Don't know where I'd be without those two :smileywink:

On My Desktop Computer...

When I first got AVG 8 ... The AVG 8 Toolbar used to cause the same kind of hang - When closing IE7

Some people complained to AVG

It was fixed within a few days

Actually...

I'm Not a massive fan of AVG

And I find the AVG 8 Toolbar ( ON - Desktop ... NOT - Laptop ) ... About as useful as a chocolate teapot :smileyvery-happy:

However...

The AVG 8 Link scanner Is - Fantastic!

And I do really miss it on my Laptop.

When I do a search on my - Desktop Computer...

I can see what websites are safe.

And if something nasty does try to download from a website ... I know AVG 8 will stop it!

On My Laptop...

Searching the web ... Doesn't feel safe!

Does NIS 09 have something like the AVG 8 Link Scanner?

I Do Plan On Trying - NIS 09 :smileyhappy:

But I want this Trial of NIS 08 to completely run out first :smileyindifferent:

Otherwise... Knowing My Luck... I'll have problems with - NIS 09 :smileysad:

Thanks!

NIS 09 doesn't out of the box, but you can install Norton Safeweb (BETA), which is the same kind of thing: http://safeweb.norton.com/

You need NIS2009 for this though.

It's Still In - Beta :smileysurprised:

You'd have thought Symantec would have waited for it to be out of Beta ... Before Releasing - NIS 09

Then Again... I think NIS 09 could have spent a bit more time in - Beta

Perfection - Is Worth... Waiting For! :smileywink:

And.. I've heard there is still a few problems with - NIS 09 :smileysad:

Does Norton Safeweb... Scan the websites?

OR...

Does it just work of a Blacklist - Like... Mcafee - Site Advisor?

Thanks!

Hi Floating_Red :smileyhappy:

IE7 Started Crashing again last night  :smileysad:

So... I've Uninstalled The - AOL Toolbar .... See How IE7 Gets On Without It!

Later on...

I had trouble shutting down my laptop.

It would Shutdown... But all the lights would stay lit.

e.g.

Hard Drive - Light

This happened twice last night.

It happened once last week too!

Could NIS 08 be causing this?

My CPU is always active :smileysurprised:

Not like my Desktop Computer.

I can't wait for the trial to finish.

Even though this NIS isn't giving me error messages... I still don't like NIS 08 :smileymad:

NIS 06 ... Was Fab! :smileyhappy:

And even though I've had problems in the past with....  NIS 07 & N360 ...

I still liked them much more than NIS 08

Even though N360 v2 was a complete Nightmare

I still liked it more than NIS 08

Fingers Crossed! ... For - NIS 09 :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks!

Hi Zana,

There's a lot of information flying back and forth on this thread, so if I have missed something please understand it is due to the shear volume of text. However, I'll try to address a few of the topics.

1) Have you checked the version number of the NIS 2008 TRIAL? You can check that by going to "Help & Support" in the main Norton Interface then in the next window click "About", then open the Norton Internet

Security Tab. The version number will be at the top. The most recent version is 15.5.0.23.

2) Hiding the Norton Phishing Protection Toolbar still keeps you protected, and adds to your usable screen area.

3) Have you turned off the Phishing Filter in IE7?  Running two can cause issues.

3) I have not experienced any appreciable "hang" time in opening or closing IE7 with the Norton Phishing Protection on my primary machine which has no other toolbars. On a secondary machine with the Google Toolbar and Norton Phishing Protection, there is a very slight delay. If I remove the Google toolbar, the delay disappears.  So if I choose to use the Google Toolbar, I accept the very slight delay.

4) Every time you add a toolbar you will experience more delay as the toolbars needs to integrate with your browser. In some cases third party toolbars can conflict with each other. Additionally since many third party toolbars have active components such as pop-up blocking, you should make sure you don't have multiple instances of the same type of action running on each one.

I hope some of this is helpful to you.

Best Wishes.

Hi Phil :smileyhappy:

Re : What Version of NIS 08

I had a look what version it was last night.

Unless I wrote it down wrong last night... My 60 Day Trial is version : 15.50.25

Rather Than .23

Re : Toolbars ... And IE7 Crashing!

Like I said...

Last night I uninstalled the AOL Toolbar

IE7 was already hanging and crashing... Before I installed the Google Toolbar.

But the AOL Toolbar ... Like the Norton Toolbar .... Came Preinstalled!

And knowing AOL hasn't been doing very well - At making their software completely compatible with Vista...

I decided the AOL Toolbar was best - Gone!

Later on...

I found my laptop wasn't shutting down properly :smileysurprised:

This had also happened once last week.

Hold On... I'm Not Finished .. I'll Be Back Soon!

Sorry about that! :smileysad:

Chicken and Mushroom with Boiled Rice - Yum! Yum! :smileyhappy:

Couldn't Miss It! :smileyvery-happy:

So Like I Was Saying...

The Laptop Wouldn't Shutdown :smileysad:

I had to do - Forced Shutdowns

Yes... It had happened once last week.

But I had put that one down to something I'd done.

I had just changed the little red  - Sleep Button .. To a little red - Shutdown Button

Forgot To Do A - Restart!

So I just presumed the computer had got a bit muddled up ... Between - Sleep & Shutdown

Every single Shutdown from then on... Until last night ... Had been absolutely fine - 12 seconds

Anyway!

This morning.... I was still having the same problem - Shutting Down :smileysad:

Then I thought of something!

AIM

The AOL Toolbar had an AIM symbol on it.

AIM was still installed on the laptop.

So... I uninstalled - AIM

Restarted The Laptop!

Half an hour later I tried - Shutting Down

Thank God.... It Worked! :smileyvery-happy:

So.... Fingers Crossed! :smileywink:

Thanks!

Almost Forgot...

Re : Phishing Protection

Only the Norton one is active.

The IE7 one is switched - OFF

:smileywink:
