Pls Help - NIS 2010 Start Up Issue or Bug with WinXP

Running WinXP-Pro-SP2, IE7, NIS, Norton Ghost

No prior problems with NIS 2007, 2008, 2009.

Uninstalled NIS 2009, installed NIS 2010.  Uninstalled 2010 and scoured Folders, Files and the Registery for any left overs - not much remaining re-installed NIS 2010 - still have same problem !!!

Install goes well, all updates, etc.  One Click Support shows all OK.

But after I shut down and restart,  NIS does not always start up.  When it does not start up and I  Start>Turn Off the Computer I always get two End Program boxes.

1) Base2PaneForm

2) ccSvcHst

which I must End in order for the computer to turn off.

Once while NIS 2010 program was open I received a Windows warning - something about Symantec Framework problem and windows needed to shut the program down.  After it shut down, I had to reboot with the same 2 boxes per above.

When NIS 2010 does not start at boot up, it will also not start by double clicking any of the icons.  Also, it will not uninstall while in this state.

I noted that if my internet cable is unplugged at boot up, NIS is more likely to start up. I then plug in the internet cable and all is fine until the next shut down.

Starting to think the problem has to do with internet interfacing.

Pls advise as this is my only computer and have no idea what to do next.

I am reluctant to utilize the  Norton Removal Tool as my only way to roll back my computer to before all this happened and with NIS 2009 is my Ghost restore point.

And, is the Norton Removal Tool a self contained file?  I shows as only 837KB.  Does it rely on having an active internet connection in order to utilize?  Would seem dangererous to stay live while removing internet protection.
