POGO and JAVA (TM) SE binary has stopped working

I uploaded the new verion of Nortons and updated my Java.

I am now unable to play the popup games in POGO.  When window pops up.....

I get

JAVA (TM) SE binary has stopped working.

I am able to play the embedded games.

I have talked with EA..... POGO..... JAVA (uninstalled 7 and installed 6.  JAVA says I need to talk with Nortons.

If I turn off NORTONS all together, it works.

HELP please, I am at my wits end and most of what I have read is completely over my head.

Thanks.

Hi 8lyle8,

When you said "If I turn off NORTONS all together, it works", which Norton products are you referring to?  It would help if you disable the programs one at a time, so we can track down which program is related to the issue.

Thanks,

Katie

If I turn of Nortons 360 all together.  I wouldn't know how to turn of certain aspects of the program.

JAVA and EA are saying I should use another anitvirus program but I have used Nortons for years and would prefer to stay with it.

I know games are not that important, but when you are disabled, it helps to have something to do..

This all began with my updating of my subscription to nortons about January 19th, 2013.  I believe I also updated Java to 7 a that time.  With the error message I uninstalled 7 and reinstalled 6 and it still ocurs.

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

norton online family is not compatible with java 7.  This issue was reported last July (see my previous posts) and norton refuses to acknowledge it or fix it.

My solution was to remove NOF altogether and install alternate web filtering.

The problem with Java 7 and NOF was reported as far back as May 30th

I don't understand Norton's silence on this issue.

In the meantime, you can uninstall Java 7, and go to the Java 6 downloads page, and download the Java SE 6 Update 39 JRE (the last supported version of Java 6) and use that.

It is probably best to select the Windows x86 Offline version, because lately I've noticed that the online version is downloading version 7 whether you want it or not.

Isn't there a huge security vulnerability in java 6?  Id rather risk my kid seeing porn by accident then risk hackers gaining access to my computer because norton wont fix this incompatibility

Update 39 is the latest supported version of Java 6.

When they released the updates to Java 7 to fix the security vulnerabilities, they released updates to 6 at the same time.

Java 7 update 11 & Java 6 update 38 released same day

Java 7 update 13 & Java 6 update 39 released same day

The thing is, they will drop support for Java 6 entirely very soon. So no new releases will be made.

But they did fix the reported security vulnerabilities.
