Hello. I have contacted Norton and asked for a refund on the two products I bought: Norton Online Backup and Norton Utilities 15.0. I did everything I could for these two items. I contacted customer support, did what was recommended, and I still cannot get Utilities to work on my Windows 7 64 bit computer. I also cannot get Online Backup to stop running in the background. I even did an online chat support for Online Backup. The rep had access to my computer and told me there was no way to get Backup to stop running in the background unless I uninstalled the software. Really Norton? You’re going to have this program run in the background of my computer constantly even though I only need to backup like once a week? Then, that same customer service rep tried to tell me that it was not running in my processes. I opened up my processes tree and showed him exactly where it was running and how much CPU it was taking up. Then, he went into services.msc and disabled the program. Online Backup was STILL running on my computer! Then, he told me not to worry about it, that it wasn’t using any CPU. I still had the processes tree up and it showed right there that it was running and using over 1,600 K of CPU. When I try to end the process, I get ‘Access Denied’. Norton, not only am I severely disappointed in the fact that customer service tried to tell me something that was not true and something that I could prove was not right, but I’m also very disappointed in the fact that you would make a program that I cannot choose to exit on my own. This is my computer, I am the user, and I should be able to tell my computer what can run on my computer and when, not you. I am not going to listen to a customer service rep tell me that I shouldn’t worry about it when, yes, I am going to worry about it and I should have the right to decide what runs on my computer and when. I have asked for refunds on both products and I will no longer buy any extra products from Norton. I don’t like being talked to as if I know nothing about my computer and being treated as if I won’t ever notice there’s an extra program running the entire time my computer is on that does not need to run constantly.
