Are the pop pops I receive from Norton with a red banner saying I need to restart my computer to receive updates valid?
there is a restart required for some updates ( builds, version and or fixes pick your term)
but those generally will show a option to apply patch now or later ( close apps or browser to apply)
never seen a box or alert or notification after a daily update so that seems odd
only thing that i can think of for the issue would be a new install ( or reinstall) where you go thru the update process a few times and restart and update again , even than it would show in that box not any place else so maybe im not sure where this notification is your asking about
Thank you! That's what I've been doing-restarting my computer. I wanted to know if Norton does issue such a message & aparently they do. I feel safer now.
Without an image of the message we cannot tell for sure that it is a Norton message. But Norton will put up such a message after a LiveUpdate that needs to update some files that need a system restart to complete.
If you are concerned, do not click on anything in the message. Just restart your computer. Be sure you are using the Restart command. Not Shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled. If you use Windows 8/8.1, 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.
I have the same problem. When I'm away from my PC for a short period of time, I get a red banner on my screen that says it was unable to update & for me to restart my computer. I, too, would like to know if this is legit or not.
