There might be a need for a possible separate section in the Forum for those who need help with the new Comcast Security Suite which is being offered by them. They may have a separate set of problems for which many of the current helpers won't be able to help with unless they have the Comcast Version of the program also. I'm already seeing threads with problems about the Comcast version of N360 and it's just come out.
Just out of curiousity, will the Norton NRT clean out that version of Comcast Security Suite if people want to get rid of it after trying it out? Will that have to be handled by Comcast? The Comcast Security Suite does have changes in it so it isn't completely like N360. I know they have their own backup program for example.
I tested the Comcast Norton Security Suite and it is Norton 360v3 labeled for Comcast. It is the same version, 3.5.2.11 and the only thing missing is the option for online backup.
There are no additional Comcast add-ons in the suite, so I think Comcast users could get good help from the 360 forum. The Secure Backup and Share powered by Mozy is a separate application which is not integrated into the Comcast NSS.
And, I can confirm that the Norton Removal Tool does a very good job of uninstalling the Comcast suite. Left behind were only two virtually empty folders located at: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data - Norton and Norton Installer.
CCleaner showed only two Missing MUI References which were easily identified and removed.
PS: If you could direct me to some of the problem threads, perhaps I could help out. Thanks!
One thing that those who help out in the N360 section of the Forum may have to be aware of is the posting of links for reinstalling N360 if someone has to remove the program for some reason and then has to reinstall it. We are going to have to find out if they have Norton N360 or the Comcast version of Norton 360. I would think that they would have to go to Comcast to reinstall the program. I guess we should add to our macros a line for the comcast version, please go to Comcast site for reinstallation.
As you point out, Comcast users will have to reinstall from the Comcast site download page. So it will be important to determine which version is being discussed.
The real confusion will not be with the source of the program, but rather with the name. Comcasters will be posting about Norton Security Suite, not N360, so I think we can expect a reasonable amount of befuddlement around here as we attempt to apply everything we know about NIS to a program that is actually N360. They couldn't have called it Comcast Security Suite by Norton could they...
The fun has started with the confusion of Comcast Security Suite being confused with NIS and being posted in the wrong section of the Forum. I've asked a Mod to move the thread to the N360 section of the Forum. There has already been someone trying to help the person, but telling them to upgrade to the newest version starting with 17.... I've already mentioned in my post in that thread that their thread will be moved to the N360 section. This is the first of many more to come I know. I think there needs to be a sticky or a notice or something on the top part of the Forum so that these Comcast Users know where to post and also so the others who are trying to help will know that the product is actually N360 minus the backup program.
