Possible Scam

Hi...I think I may have been victim of a scam today. After installing W10, my NIS did indeed disappear. I did a reinstall, but it wasn't working properly...wouldn't Liveupdate and wouldn't scan...just hung. OK, the banner on this page recommends a fix....but I didn't see it before embarking on a web search for a solution. After a web chat with what purported to be Norton 'Support', they promised to ring me back. This was an 0800 UK number.... They guy was probably in India though. I should have smelt a rat when he asked to use TeamViewer to carry out a remote fix. When I saw him accessing my C drive using DOS commands I turned my PC off.

So a lost afternoon....bank contacted, internet banking blocked until they issue new access codes and passwords, and my cloudvault access passwords, local and cloud, changed; and much detail deleted. Fortunately no activity on my bank accounts meanwhile. Teamviewer deleted.

So, NIS problem solved by working through the uninstall and reinstall tool on the website. All working; full system scans carried out all OK.

Rang back the 0800 number form an unlisted phone. 0800-014-8235...diverts you. They answer with 'Support'...questioned 'whose support?' they say 'Norton'. Don't believe it. In hindsight 99% certain it was not pukka Norton help.

So hopefully, all that's wrong is that I feel stupid. Sharing this info lest anybody else gets caught. Follow through the fixes via the Norton dialogue boxes.
