Hello :)
For the past few days I've been having an issue with certain programs. I caught a virus (one of those pesky fake anti-virus which Norton referred to as Trojan.Gen), which I got rid of using both Norton and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Since then, I have not been able to log into Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo Mail, or the iTunes store. They behave as if there were no internet connection--meanwhile, I can do just about everything else just fine, like other webpages, videos, and other downloads. Upon attempting to reinstall Yahoo Messenger, a pop-up appeared saying that a firewall was preventing the download of necessary items. Could this be an overzealous firewall caused by the virus? I have tried opening Norton and temporarily disabling the firewall and intrusion prevention, with no results. Do you have any ideas/advice?
Technical information, if needed:
Using Windows XP
Using Firefox (Internet Explorer also refuses to show web pages)
Norton Internet Security version 16.8.0.41
Let me know if any of this is unclear or if you need more information. Thank you!
Edited to add: I saw a similar post about iTunes not working after a Norton update. The response was to upgrade to Norton 2011, which I attempted. I was able to download the .exe file, but installing was unsuccessful, I assume for the same reason as everything else.
