My wife is experiencing an issue with her PC. Naturally, this occurs when I'm not there. She walks away from the computer and when she returns the monitor is shut off and when she turns it back on there are new websites displayed. I have her running a complete system scan. There have been other annoyances that may, in retrospect, be significant: the computer sometimes runs slower than expected, typing is interrupted/slow causing the first few characters to not appear on screen, etc.
Any thoughts about this? Other actions we should take. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Check to see if your "remote access" is turned on, if it is, turn it off. That won't get rid of any trojan, ransom ware, or what ever it was that took over. You might get a symantec tech to check it out and remove anything your norton doesn't find. That will entail a remote access, but they do turn it back off before leaving your pc. I know, because I've had tech in mine 3 times. That's the first thing I check after the session is over. Only access tech support through you're norton product. That's the safest way I know to keep from being sent to a bogus site. I do the same with microsoft.
To check, go to "my pc" then "properties" then "remote settings".

To add to this I would boot up in SAFE MODE with NO NETWORKING and run a scan. One other thing is to make sure if you have a network at this residence I would highly recommend that you password it out using at least 10 charcters and letters. You can access your router settings by going to www.routerlogin.com. This will bring up your router info and it allow you to change the password to get in.
