Ever since the last major upgrade (a couple of months ago), Norton has been turning my computer off when I have been away for a while. This includes when I am downloading, or synching my ipod or tablet, etc. The computer is off when I get back so I have no way of knowing if what I was doing finished correctly, plus I have to start it up again.
I have seen the message that tells me the computer is powering down, and it is definitely from Norton, but I cannot find how to change or turn off this feature.
Well, I do have a custom scan, but it is only supposed to run when I manually tell it to. And when I saw the message saying that my computer would be shutting down in 23 seconds, no scan preceded it.
OK, well just to check, open N360 and click on PC Security > Run Scans > Custom Scan > Go. Then select your custom scan and click Edit Scan. Make sure on the bottom right side, Stay On is selected in the drop-down box.

But it's turning my computer off when I am NOT running a scan! Yes, it turns it off after my custom scan, which is exactly what I want it to do, but it's turning it off other times as well.
I understand. In that case, you might like to remove that your question has been solved as other's may think you no-longer require help. To do that, on the post you marked as the solution click options, and in the drop-down menu select Not The Solution.
Thanks -- I clicked on that in error and had no idea how to make it go away. I have been using Norton for years, but this is my first time here.
Welcome,
Belated but still, welcome.
Have you checked your windows power settings? It sounds like some of the activities you are doing may appear to the computer as idle time and the shutdown clock starts ticking.
Sorry for the trouble. If you get can get a screenshot showing that Norton is turning off the computer, it can be helpful for us. There is another possibility - if you have configured the scan at Idle time, it will automatically start the scan when your computer enters the idle state and then performs the shut down. You can turn off the Idle Time settings for scan, but keep the settings to turn off the computer after completing the scan. Here is a screenshot for your reference:
I just recently updated to the newer version of norton and now it keeps shuting my computer down. I am not running a scan when it does this and I have looked and looked to solve this and I can not. so I included a photo, I was looking at craigslist got up to get a drink from the kitchen and when I got back to my computer Norton was warning me that it was going to power down my computer. Sometimes I do not see the warning and I get back to a turned off computer and it sucks. please help. I have tried and tried looking for a similar screen shot as those that are on this thread but I just can not find it.
ok apparently i can not attach the photograph as an attachment as it is a jpeg
