I am having an a problem with power eraser. It is not the same as this thread, but thought still a power eraser issue. When I run power eraser I get the error "0x8000ffff,n5". I think my computer has an issue, but the Norton software isn't finding anything. Hope the power eraser will. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi spiderfan1984,
Welcome to the Norton Community.
Which Norton product do you have and what is the version? You can find the version from Support > About. Also what version of Windows and SP (service pack) do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit?
What makes you believe your computer has malware? What kind of symptoms are you seeing and/or error messages?
Gorpy1 is correct, the NPE (Norton Power Eraser) is a very powerful tool and should not be used as a first resort. Whatever you do, I would recommend that you do not run it in Aggressive Mode. If you decide to run the NPE I would further recommend that you post the results of the NPE scan here and get guidance on whether it is safe to remove anything it might find.
However, before you run the NPE I would suggest that you run the NBRT (Norton Bootable Recovery Tool) is it is much safer since it runs with the same scan engine as your Norton produduct. Since the NBRT runs in an offline mode it has a better chance of finding malware which might be present than running a scan from your Norton product within Windows.
You can download the NBRT from here and it is a fully self-contained package and can burn either CD/DVD or bootable USB flash (if your system supports booting from USB). I would recommend USB if your system supports it.
Please let us know how it goes and again please do not run the NPE until you have at least tried the NBRT.
Best wishes.
Allen
The main thing is my mouse will sometimes work normally other times its way to sensitive and jumps all over the place. Also sometimes its like my left arrow key is stuck or something and the items on my desktop are being highlighted randomly. I live without cable and watch lots of hulu and espn3 video streams fine and for the most part web surfing is normal. Sometimes is runs a bit slow though. I have version 18.6.0.29 and I am still rocking it old school with windows XP not real sure where I would find what service pack it is. I have downloaded the NBRT, but not sure I know how to use it. I created the ISO tool then it says to reboot computer with ISO scan, but there I can't figure out how to start the scan. Thanks for the help so far looks like this a good place to find solutions.
