I have run power eraser 4 times now to scan my hard drive, each time it gets to Processing Data and just stays there. I have to shut it down manually, the Cancel button won't even work. Is it my computer or is something else wrong?

Yeah, I was able to do the system scan just fine. Only the directory scan on my main hard drive fails.
Because you have a large number of files. NPE needs to classify these files as good or bad thus you see 'Processing data' such long time.
so it takes 40 minutes to scan, but 8 hours to process?
"so it takes 40 minutes to scan, but 8 hours to process?"
It takes 8 Hours and 5 Minutes to process.... You were almost there!! Only kidding. I've no clue:
Yep, got the same shi7. Please help us out, someone.
"the Cancel button won't even work." Same for me. I had to close the process from task manager.
Tomorrow I am gonna run it in safe mode with networking and see if it works there. http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100914184709EN&ln=en_US
I just tried doing the safe mode thing.... no help. I let it 'process data' for about 5 hours while I was gone... no difference. Maybe the program itself is faulty?
i am having the same issue where on multiple days I have set Norton Power Eraser to get malware off one 60Gb disk, but it does not complete even atfer 4 or 5 hours porcessing. It just says, "scaning your computer". For one, I am wondering while designated to scan just one drive it is in fact scanning all the drives in the computer? Are others have the same problem? I do need to get the malware off the machine which is pretending to be security software.
I just wanna know if everyone that's using NPE is having this problem or are there people for whom it works just fine (In scan directory Mode)?
What have ya gotta say Norton? And please don't refer me to that chat bot, Nathan.... I hate that guy so much.
Sorry for the doublepost (not really, at least we get to bump this subject up) I couldn't edit my previous one. Okay, so now my NPE has been Checking for New version for 2 and half hours. Yey.
I'd like to speak with Edward Norton, please.
I did get the checking for new version at startup where it wouldnt go any further, but just shut it down and started again and all was good. I am starting to think maybe the program is bogus, and doesn't actually work at all. Since no one can give us an answer or any advice, except for one "It takes a long time"...
hi mp518
Have sent you a private message asking for some details
Thanks
Apparently there is no solution. Power Eraser sucks I will not recommend it to anyone. What a waste of time.
