Hello All
Since my last posting re duplicate backups, we've been experiencing power failures almost every day. Weather doesn't matter, time of day/night doesn't matter, phase of the moon doesn't matter (Hydro people say they don't know what's wrong, but they're working on it - and it's not just our house, it covers miles and quite a few towns).....so needless to say I've been reluctant to attach my external hard drive to do a backup....I haven't the foggiest idea what would happen to the external USB HD should a power outage occur while it is plugged in (but I'm guessing that it wouldn't like it one bit). When not in use the backup drive is disconnected, put away in it's box and (most of the time) in a bank's safety deposit box....it was home today because I thought I should backup
Today I lost my iTunes Library (which was running) because of a power failure. Thankfully I was able to restore it from a backup done last month without any problems in just a few minutes. But, they were a tense few minutes while my backup drive was plugged in!
So I'm wondering, what would happen if a power outage occurred during a backup? Or a restore for that matter. How does NG react when the 'plug is pulled' so to speak?
Now I'm thinking: Forget about incremental backups, do a Full Backup every week, but alternate between different external hard drives. I'm not one for putting all my eggs into one basket.
The suggestion of partitioning my 'D' drive and backing up to it still sounds wonderful and probably safer, but I haven't yet been able to determine how to partition my 'D' drive and not lose all the data on it.
Forgive my digressing and ranting, but power outages are becoming my nemesis (don't you just hate having to reset all those clocks!!).
