I just tried a practice use scan of Norton Bootable Recovery Tool on laptop with Windows Vista operating system. Ordinarily, the computer is wifi internet connected. The computer has no ongoing problems and generally very reliable; no strange behavior (or maybe rarely). Quickscans been done about 2 or 4 times per week, and maybe no more than 20 full scans ever been done using NIS, N360, NS. So the machine is thought as "probably very clean".
Scan took 2 hours, went through some 157XXX items, and no threats found: ZERO threats found. No internet connection was made and seeming no way to find any connection nor available networks. I guess this is why NBRT still needs to be used with direct wired "ethernet" connection for internet.
(I thought I read somewhere, some symantec site, that nbrt now can be used either wired OR wireless.)
Note that I was not required at any stage to enter a product key. I downloaded the ISO file through norton or Symantec site. I used disc writing/burning tool to make the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool onto DVD. No requirement shown to enter product key. Later,.... ran the program nbrt on a laptop machine to test - never had to put in any product key, and no form shown anywhere to do so.
