Why would the other thread be deleted?? Can someone from Norton tell me what I’m supposed to do with this security alert? I still have the dialog box open and haven’t allowed or blocked anything yet. What is going on??
Yes, I posted a question to the thread that began earlier today. Why was that thread deleted? There was nothing profane or derogatory in it, just lots of people wanting to know what is PIFTS.exe. And I still would like to hear from a Norton employee what exactly is PIFTS.exe if it is, indeed, one of their programs.

The old thread was deleted because Norton is trying to COVER IT UP.
CONTACT CONSUMERIST (dot) COM with any info you have! This is big!
They deleted the first thread after over 4,000 users viewed it and it was the #1 result on Google and the 63rd most searched term today on all of Google. They don’t want the world to know about their massive foul up. Another thread was created and they locked it down. no replies allowed. It will be deleted along with this one very soon. I recommend that people keep creating this thread until Symantec gives its users some idea of what is going on. You guys are crazy if you keep paying this company your hard earned money.
I just received another request for PIFTS. exe, it said it was a part of Live Update. I refused it until I get Symantec answer on this.
Why has Symantec deleted any reference to the PIFTS.EXE file? This is now the 17th most searched term on Google today and rising. Hundreds of thousands of people have searched it. Norton Community threads come up in Google searches but lead to pages that have been removed by Symantec. People who try to post new threads on this are having their posting accounts either suspended or deleted. Symantec has refused to say one word on this issue that has been going on almost all day. Run away from Norton’s Antivirus as fast as you can. Find an alternative. This is how the company reacts when you have a possible huge threat. So what is the purpose of owning their software if neither it nor the customer support people at Symantec will help you when you need it. Kind of defeats the purpose of the software in the first place, doesn’t it?
I have been on the phone with Norton Tech Support for an hour and a half so far and can't get any answers. Does anyone know what this is? C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Updt155\pifts.exe
Has anybody heard of it before? I got a pop up asking me if I wanted to allow pifts.exe, I tried googling to see what it was and I am not getting any information. Anyone know what this .exe is/does?
I've been seeing some chatter from the interwebs about this pifts.exe file.
They've been saying that any message created that mentions it has been immediately deleted.
Is there any legitimacy to these statements?
It appears the mods have taken a break.
I don't feel comfortable paying a company to protect my computer when they won't be honest about something like this! If you won't tell us in the thread, at least PM me and let me know WHY your software wants to access the internet.
and I noticed some threads getting deleted, Any one know why exactly? it’s kind of weird.
Has anyone determined what PIFTS.exe does yet? I'm hesitant to allow it to access my internet connection because it doesn't seem to me that Symantec is being honest about what it does!
Thanks,
Matt
Seriously, I’m concerned about my computer mods! Help?
Why do you keep deleting the threads Mods? We want to know what the software we paid for is doing. What is PIFTS.EXE?
Cool; they stopped banning.
Program logs usage, throws it at Microsoft, Google, and Washington Swapdrive. Don't allow it, etc.
I’d also like to know what pifts.exe is, and why all threads about it are being deleted.
BK got banned, guys.
I expect this to be gone by the time I finish this, but if it's not, listen up Mods.
Think of it this way; we're paying your company for a service. If something is wrong, we DEMAND we know what's going on so we can prepare in case we need to.
Stop deleting, stop banning, and join up.
Have there been any official announcements about this?
This afternoon for no apparent reason my computer launched a file under C:\documents and settings\all users\application
data\symantec\liveupdate\downloads\Updt56\pifts.exe this exe then tried to connect to do a dns lookup. It seemed suspicious because if it was really
part of my symantec product then why was it not recommended to allow this connection.
I blocked the request then tried to delete the file but access was denied, I couldn’t even open it in notepad to see what’s inside. I restarted my
computer and checked the location again but the directory was gone.
Is this file a part of norton internet security or am I being attacked? Does symantec have any advice on this file as it seems to belong to symantec’s
product?
