Probably an easy question, but I'm confused!

Duis mollis, est non commodo luctus, nisi erat porttitor ligula, eget lacinia odio sem nec elit. Sed posuere consectetur est at lobortis. Vestibulum id ligula porta felis euismod semper. Curabitur blandit tempus porttitor. Sed posuere consectetur est at lobortis.

I have a subscription to Norton Internet Security (originally 2006). I received an email informing me it is scheduled to expire July 2/2008.

I elected to turn off the automatic renewal because I have bought NIS 2008 from a store.

Are there any procedures I must take to “synchronize” it with my previous copy? Or am I starting from scratch with this product; is it considered an upgrade or a renewal?

Can I install the 2008 version before my subscription runs out?

This is probably better suited directed at Customer Service, but I tried Chat and even email and neither of them worked for me.

Thanks for any info you can supply.

Regarding your question about automatic Re-newal: Contact Customer Services and they will disable your On-going Protection and thereafter you should get a confirmation e-mail telling you that On-going Protection has been Cancelled.

If you are now using N.I.S. 2008 from previously using N.I.S. 2006, I would call that an Upgarde; a Re-newal is when your re-new your Subscription for the same Product and Version.

You can install 2008 on your current license.

Than when license is over just renew your license

If you mean when your current licence (on the product before the purchased NIS 2008) is over I do not recollect that you have to do that. The two licence periods get added together as I indicated.

If you mean after the total period of old plus new 2008, I'd agree but so far I've always found that there is a much cheaper update offer which automatically gives you the latest version when the media was made.

In any case hopefully 2009 will be out by then <s>

Please say if I'm wrong or misunderstood.

This is no reflection on Norton itself but watch your credit card/bank account and make sure the charge does not go through. If it's on your bank account direct I think you may have to inform the bank to stop it but I'm not sure -- just some messages I've read in various places, including newspapers, about problems with stopping automatic renewals.

By synchronize, do you mean take over your settings and say any blocked or allowed addresses etc? Please clarify. I don't know whether your installed version had an add-on or not but check here for advice on whether there is a procedure or whether installing on top of what you have will take over settings. I know that with NIS 2007 and 2008 if you have the Add-on for AntiSpam etc there is a procedure for saving those before you install the new version which uninstalls the old one.

In my experience -- but I've never used subscriptions -- if you install a new version on top of one with say 30 days left the new version will show 295 days (or 294?) left and that if it does not there is a procedure for going in and jogging the Norton Account. Which raises the question -- did you set up Norton Account with your existing version? If not do so since it will then remember the unexpired days when you install the new one. I can't remember whether you have to set up Norton Account or whether it is just offered.

Watch out for more answers especially after the weekend on the subscription questions.
