Problem Installing NAV2008

Oh man that’s really unfortunate that Symantec probably doesn’t work with dynamic drives. I’m not willing to give mine up yet, hopefully there’s a workaround for me, possibly setting permissions differently using compatibility mode or something.

It would be a great help if this issue was listed in the knowledge base!

I wasted hours on the phone with the helpdesk earlier in the year with this exact problem and never got a resolution.

I just encountered it again with 360 and this time found the answer here. To confirm it I re-installed XP and immediately after a reboot I converted a drive to a dynamic disk and then rebooted again - Instant failure! 360 won't start, won't uninstall, nothing!

I have a need for dynamic discs, so I eagerly await a resolution. But if it's not acknowledged as a problem by the helpdesk then it's probably not even listed as a bug and so not likely to have a solution any time soon! So can anyone tell me what the process for logging it as a bug is without wasting any more of my time with the helpdesk?

You have just now started the process; our team is working with the information provided to research this issue further. Thanks!

Now that you are here please spend a little time looking around and you will see how well Norton look after our bug reports, produce work-arounds if they can and fix them the problems ..... It's amazing, frankly.

You will also see that situations brought up here are fed through to the help desk personnel both phone and on-line chat.

I hope they do as well for your problem as they are doing on others.

So what are the odds of being kept informed on progress? Or better yet being notified when it’s resolved? I’d be happy to provide feedback and testing in exchange for a free subscription

The odds are pretty good about you being informed of the progress. This issue will most likely involve much research from our teams, so I don’t think it will be implemented immediately to existing products. However, it is currently under discussion and I will update you when more information becomes available. Thanks!

Has there been any progress with this issue?

Has there been confirmation that this is a bug?

Is there any work being done to resolve it?

Does the helpdesk acknowledge and have tools to resolve the problem or do they still have customers run around for three weeks installing and uninstalling?

Have the published system requirements for the range of Symantec products affected been updated to reflect the lack of support for dynamic discs?

Can I get an update please?

Hi,gto78,

I once meet the same problem, later I solve the problem . I reinstall OS ,I think maybe the os installation error. You can try to set up you os agine.

Thanks

You'll certainly get help here! Please be patient because although Norton Staffers do log in at the weekend it may take more time.

Just to clarify -- do you mean start and run from startup or do you mean you can't start it at all after Windows has booted up fully?

FWIW I just searched the Norton support on NAV2008 and that error message does not appear even when narrowed down to the (0X0000142) but if you do a google on it you get plenty of references which would seem to be Windows orientated.

Hang on ......

PS Did you check Event Viewer to see what error messages it records at the time you get the error message you quote? You can get to Event VIewer via Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management.

Double Click on an error line to get Properties with details and use the Copy button to copy all the details into the clipboard if you need to paste it in somewhere -- like here.
