There are 2 sites in the Symantec Knowledge Base that addresses "remote procedure call failed", but neither seems to deal with Norton Ghost v14 specifically:

and

Which other Symantec products and versions are on your system? Is there an error code? Any additional information is appreciated. Thanks!
I’m also having this issue. The backup runs for a little while and then fails with the “remote procedure call failed” error. I had run Live Update but the updates didn’t help matters any. I’ve got Vista Ulitimate w/ SP1. I’ve also got a Dell but it’s proabably irrelevent as I’ve reloaded it. I’ll also throw in that this is the second time I’ve tried Ghost v14 on 2 different loads of Vista on the same laptop though.
Anybody had any luck in resolving this problem? I’d like to get Ghost 14 working as I would like to be able to back up my laptop with it.
Hi Doug,
Did you try the suggestions I posted above?

Hey Tony,
From what I remember upon looking under options there is no mention of Norton AV since I do not have it. I couldn't find anything related to "protection" either. I would assume there is some level of ghost file protection even without the presence of Norton AV. So that's kind of where that ended. There are no other Symantec/Norton products on the system. I do not remember an error code but I'll take a look to be sure. I'll need to reinstall Ghost, run it, and post back with any further details.
same problem here...error message is very generic with NO error number. A popup just comes up saying: "The remote procedure call failed" and then there's a link to "More help on the web" - but that link doesn't seem to do anything. Windows also generates an error saying "Service module stopped working and was closed...A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."
I'm also running Norton 360 on Vista.
Without knowing the error message, the best solution for you would be to contact our Customer Support team directly here:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp
Our team will be able to access your computer with your permission, and check the error messages and logs.
The reason you are liekly to have this problem is the drive you are trying to backup to is using fat32 format the backup device to NTFS and all should work fine! why has this not been answered already?
My backup drive is NTFS, but I'm still getting this error.
This question has been out on this forum for AGES. Does anyone know where you can go to get answers to this question?
