Problem Installing Norton Internet Security 2012

Hi first time poster here.

Recently purchased a new HP laptop which had a 3 month trial of Norton Internet Security pre installed on it. After it expired having no money to buy the full version, I installed it replacing it with the AVG free program. I never liked it as it would annoy me at times so when I had the cash I purchase a new copy of Norton Internet Security 2012.

This is when my world started to fall apart!

When I tried to install Norton it told me that I would have to uninstall AVG first, I tried to do this first by going to "start"-"programs"-"AVG"-"uninstall" it never worked. Next I tried via "control panel"-"programs"-"Uninstall programs" but this never worked either. This put me in a dilemma as what to do as I'm not a PC wiz. I typed into Google "I can't uninstall a program" this gave me a program called "Revo Uninstaller Pro" I used it and tried to uninstall AVG. It went through the steps of searching all related AVG files on my PC and displaying them for me to delete. As I said I'm not a wiz kid so I started to have second thoughts about going through with it. I never ticked the boxes and clicked next which took me to another screen which listed more AVG files to delete which I did.

I then tried to install  Norton Internet Security 2012 but again it told me to remove AVG. So Again I typed into Google "I can't uninstall AVG" this time I tried "Perfect Uninstaller". I went through its guide and removed all traces of AVG restarting my laptop and trying to install my copy Norton.

This time the installation went ahead asking me to put in my product key and installed. BUT when I went to access the new installed program nothing happened.

Can anybody help me?
