PROBLEM - Norton subscription has expired - PC left unprotected

Problem. Norton subscription has expired - PC left unprotected. OK, well, I don't have the money to pay at this time (I must choose to pay the electric bill or pay for NIS), its the economic crisis that our governments and greedy corporations has put us into it. Now what? I had it for many years, paid for it. Now I can not pay such a huge amount over $70 just for one year. Our salaries are just 300 to 500 a month, so 70 is a huge amount here. I have a choice to use Linux and dump Norton forever or have Norton apologise to its customers for lying and restore my unupdated protection. First of all I was promised that once my subscription expires my Norton will still work, only will not get the updates. Wrong. Now I am getting a red flag or red cross on a flag on my PC, which comes from Microsoft Windows 8.1. It says: Solve PC issues: two important messages. It gives me options to TURN ON Windows Defender or to TURN ON NIS (Norton Internet Security). It turns out that Norton upon expiration turned itself off n my PC completely! And when I try to turn it on, it will not turn on. Of course! No money, no honey. It should be still protecting my PC without getting the new updates, but that is not the case! It seems to be a bait & switch and a fake promise. Consumer Beware!
