If you have a valid subscription for the 2006 product, you are eligible for the free upgrade to the 2008 version. The 2008 version has enhanced features compared to the 2006 version.
If you still wish to have the 2006 version, I suggest you to delete the temporary files < Start>Run>In the Run dialogue box, type %temp% in the Run dialogue box and then click on OK. This will open the temp folder ,delete as many files as you can).
Now try the steps given in the document Autofix .
It is always better to upgrade to the latest version..........
I have Norton Internet Security version 2006 and it has worked fine until today. Now I am receiving an “attention required” message telling me that my email and messaging scanning is turned off. When I click on Norton Antivirus Status it shows “ERROR” as the status for my email scanning. What should I do to fix/turn it back on?
Turn it back on.
Besides that you are working with a pretty old version. Please upgrade to the latest version. It's free for the period of your license
