If you want to see incompatibility head on over to Kaspersky. They have a laundry list of programs you cannot use with there products. So what your saying is that Symantec as well as any other software designer is suppose to test out there product to see if its compatible with the millions of software already out there. That's absurd to think that. So when a car company makes a new car and some fat dude cannot fir in the car then its that the car makes fault. No. You cannot think that Symantec is suppose to test the product against all other security software out there before releasing it to the public. Come on now. Do you think Webroot does this. No.

Well in response to your question I think you should trial and error the short and wide one until it meets your requirements or make it compatible with the tall and narrow one, because while I was just running NIS09 on my computer with Windows Vista I acquired a virus as well as spyware and malware.
Of course any antivirus program will let some viruses, spyware, and malware slip through. Though with all innovation as well as with the absence of innovation problems persist. I'm in no way as highly educated in Anti Virus programs as you and by no means am I bashing Norton. It is just that most recently I switched to Webroot antivirus with anti spyware and I have been fine.
Note I was initially using the program Norton Internet Security 08 but then upgraded to NIS09 over the internet and that could be the problem in itself. I have read that it is better to install programs from the actual disc rather than downloading upgrades. :S
smoke, I'm sorry to hear that encountered problems with our product. The issue, however, seems unrelated to this particular topic which is about problems running the Norton 2009 products with WebRoot's SpySweeper. I suggest that you start a new topic to discuss your issue.

I don't believe I'm contradicting myself. I don't understand the assertion that Symantec can't be to blame because there were 2 different programs problems with 2 different NIS versions. The fact is 2 NIS versions & 2 major KNOWN-BY-SYMANTEC problems with 2 very extensively used programs. First of all I disagree with "broken again'. These programs were out there and working fine with older versions of NIS. If a new version of NIS is released and it won't interface with them properly, then NIS isn't 'broken again' but was broken from the onset. Of course that's just my opinion.
In my corporate IT life I experienced all that you mentioned. And I know that there must be an established change control policy and that it must be followed without exception to prevent runaway apps. And I know there are deadlines which have to be met. That being said, I'm not sure enough initial testing was done before the software was released. The testing phase (and QC/QA), before implementation, of any projects I ran called for extensive prework to make sure that existing programs ran with the new software. Many times that turned up bugs which caused a rewrite. I'm sure you've also experienced this. I just feel that both FF3 and Spysweeper have a wide enough user base that they should've been shaken out and tested with each version of NIS before it's release, so that these problems wouldn't appear after release. I know multiple AV's don't play well together so I would fully understand and wouldn't have a problem with NIS '09 having a problem with Spysweeper's AV, but Spysweeper's AV is not being used. It's not even installed.
I clearly said 2 real time spyware scanners. Please read what I said carefully. Look at reply #22,14 and my other replyâs. No where diod I say anything about 2 avâs. If you are running Spy Sweeper in real time and using the shields then thats called overlapping security cause your running 2 real time spyware scanners.

Same problem here, NIS2009 does NOT play well with Spysweeper.
And the problem has started with installing NIS, with N360v2 I had no problems at all. Now that I have removed Spysweeper, at least I can start windows again without freezing it solid.
And since my subscription doesn't end untill 2011 with Spysweeper, I would like to be able to use it.
I also contacted Webroot with this problem, and (the Dutch) support said that they didn't know about any compatability issues with NIS 2009.
So I gave them the links to this forum and the problems I encountered.
Wouldn't it be easier if Symantec contacted Webroot, and tried to solve it? how hard can it be for a symantec/webroot employee to join forces and installing both products on one PC so they can analyze the issues? Why do we, the customers, have to be doing thier work?My guess is that NIS at a pricetag of about âŹ70,- should work well, or shouldn't have been released as Final version, butwould better be kept in Beta.
IE Security BHO IE Hijack Network â Common Ad Sites Hosts File Internet Communication Windows System â ActiveX Alternate Data Stream Execution Windows Messenger Service System Services Execution File System Startup Programs â Startup Items E-mail Attachments
I looked for specifics on where NIS 09 handles/covers these items individually as Spysweeper does and couldn't find them. If NIS is indeed a duplicate in protection and using Spysweeper is a security overlap, it should be covered somewhere. Please tell me specifically where NIS '09 addresses these items.
Those are the real time Shields yes. But you are forgetting what the program is called. âSpy Sweeperâ. Not âShield Sweeperâ. Spy Sweeperâs main function is to handle spyware which NIS already covers. Also those shields in Spy Sweeper mainly cover IE with the exception of the start up shield. You donât need those shields if you simply use Firefox.
My many years in IT taught me you can't play 'Trust Me'. You get bit hard in the **bleep** - either now or later- when you play that game. NIS either handles these things or it doesn't. If it does it should/would spec it. If it doesn't and it cripples a PC it has a big flaw and should be fixed. And why is it that you don't know that not all sites work in/with FF? Telling people not to use Spysweeper doesn't fix the problem. It just hides it. You can't change the real world which is that NIS must coexist with a program which has the wide user base that Spysweeper has. Symantec knows the 'don't use it' answer won't fly and will eventually make the fix. The question is how long it'll take to do it.
And as for the name "Spysweeper': It could be called 'Henrietta Marigold' for all I care. The fact is it's a lot lot more than just anti-Spyware. Come into the real world.
As far as the shields dealing with IE: other than the Web Browser ones, MOST of the System and Network shields have nothing to do with IE. And of course the Startup shield has a lot of value. And yes Iâm aware that NIS covers a FEW of them.
I have never been infected in well over 6 years now and I surf everything and anything. NIS covers me well. You are just a person who got brian washed by Webroot. I just started using NIS so I am not a long time user of Symantec products but I believe in NIS because of the extensive virus testing I did on my own. If you think those Shields in Spy Sweeper are so essential then you should look farther into why you need them. Prevention is the best cure.

I guess you mean 'IE Tab". I have it and have used it for yrs. Some sites still work better and render better in native IE. And you were the one who was always talking about performance. Tell me you think that IE is just as bad a memory hog as FF is. Bring up a task manager/process viewer and see what the mem usage/handles/threads are for each of them and watch it as your browser stays open for awhile. I think you'll be surprised. There's always a price to pay, even with FF (which I use 99% of the time).
