I have NIS 5 for Mac (version 5.6) on a MacBook Air running OSX 10.7.5 and I am trying to use a language study program that has some learning games that I would like to run. When I try to running them I get the following error message saying that the application is blocked. In the Firewall section of NIS the Application Blocking function is turned off - any suggestions on how to fix this. Thanks

Thanks for the reply - the setting in the OSX Security and Privacy screen was set to allow applications to download from "Anywhere". The OSX firwall is turned off as well as the NIS firewall is being used. Any other ideas?
With the NIS firewall features being disabled, does your application establish a connection? More specifically, with the connection blocking disabled, too, does your application establish connectivity?
Also, through the NIS UI, status section, you can view your network connections.
If you assume that the NIS firewall is involved, what might be of use for you as well, is to access the history (as well in the status section; upper right hand side corner) and review the log. Review the available categories for a related entry. Any result?
Thanks for the advice - it turns out it was the Java security settings that were blocking a Java application that didn't have a trusted certificate. I've contacted the folks that make the software to see if they are going to fix it but temporarily I can allow Java applications for their web site.
