I have recently installed NIS 2013 as an upgrade for NIS2012 on Vista Home premium edition
The install went fine and comlpetes - downloading updates, starting services etc. fine However....
- There is no NIS icon in the toolbar
- Clicking on the NIS icon on the Desktop shows the spinning icon for about 1 sec then dissappears. NIS doesn;t open
- The NIS interface won't open using the start menu.
- Connecting to the internet no longer works
- The network status shows two networks a private identified network and a unidnetified public network and varying degrees of internet connectivity (i.e. sometimes just local)
- After some time an error box appears saying error 8506, 421 which it cannot repair
Removal of NIS using the Norton removal tool brings the system back to a state that shows one network and enables access to the internet as normal.
A reinstallation of NIS 2013 and the issues return
Install NIS 2012 now produces exactly the same issues and problems
Running malware scans shows no issues
Doesn't matter whether wireless or wired connection, and same in different locations using different router/network environments
Recreating the network stack using nesth does not remove or resolve the multiple networks.
There are no error messages or logs other then the 8506,421 error
Deleting the network location created by the NIS install and then reinstalling doesn't work
Changing the settings on the two network locations doesn't work.
The registry doesn't have any security permission issues
I can see or residual NIS files or registry settings once NIS has been fully removed.
Unselecting IPV6 makes no difference.
Nothing on any of the forums I have read suggests a root cause to this problem and resolution.
Any thoughts anyone?
