Problem with norton

i have been trying to get my norton 360 anti virus fixed for a week now and it is still saying that my pc security is at RISK can someone please help me

It sounds as though you may have installed the Norton Security Scanner by accident in another download.  It is hard to say without more information.  What Norton product does it say it is?

the same general norton software you get when you get a dell computer, firewall, scanner and so on... I have no idea how it got there because when I do download things such as DivX I make sure I uncheck all the optionial products, it just seems to have snuck on the cheeky bugger

Hello Shaddz

If you open up the Norton product, what is the name of the product please?  If you look in add/remove, what is it listed as please? Thanks.

Norton AntiVirus and Norton Security Scan

Norton Security scan probably showed up in another download.  It should be easily removable through add/remove.  Norton Antivirus or if it has a firewall, Norton Internet Security is a different issue.  You will need to run the Norton removal tool a couple of times, with a reboot after each use.  Because antivirus products dig so deep into the operating system, I suspect that if you installed Avast over top of Norton, or over top of an improper removal, it may be preventing it from being removed completely.

You may also need to uninstall Avast to run the removal tool. Probably Avast should be cleanly reinstalled anyway to make sure there are no conflicts.

Not to butt in...

Norton Security Scan Removal Tool

You can run this tool if you cannot uninstall Norton Security Scan using Windows Add or Remove Programs.

Hi Shaddz,

To list the steps you should take:

Download the Norton removal tool from here.

In case needed, download the Norton Security Scan removal tool which bjm mentioned earlier which is here.

Disconnect from the Internet as a precaution.

Uninstall Avast.

Uninstall Norton Antivirus from Control panel.

Uninstall Norton Security Scan from Control panel.

Run the Norton Removal tool twice with a reboot in between each run.

If desired or necessary, run the Norton Security Scan removal tool.

Best wishes.

Hi Shaddz

Sorry to see the issues you have been having with your new machine...

As you are probably well aware..the pre installed software on Dell......Mesh.......P/Bell...H/P new computers can be a blessing for some...and a pain in the butt for loads of others !

For the majority of seasoned users who wish to configure their "new baby" to their own preferences....the "pre installs that come in the "package" with new machines is not always welcome ..Attempts at removing the unwanted software (especially if you are having some  "grief" with the process) ...can lead to a load of "hair tearing " !

It looks as if in your frustration with your "unwanted software " has done exactly this in your case...Bear in mind that software (especially Anti Virus and Web Security programs) ..by their very nature...have to place entries deep within the Registry structure ...and if you have been having repeated frustrated attempts at removal and re installation..this could well be the root of your problem..

Follow the good advice by previous posts here and use the tools suggested and I'm sure you'll get it sorted via the steps advised !.........

If you have any other unwanted stuff on board....a good number of users find this a handy tool

Use the detailed advice by the Guru's first.....any other stubborn stuff you may be unhappy with ....try the software in the above link.......Good luck ! :smileywink:!

Moved to Norton 360 Board for better exposure.
