Problem with VPN on iPhone 15, you have to periodically go to the login page on Wi-Fi

Situation:
in the hotel’s unsecured network you have to log in again every 24 hours. This only takes you to the login page, not the Internet.
Problem:
After 24 hours, Norton “Security” checks endlessly; The “VPN is being activated” display is also infinitely long (there is no internet connection, you would have to go to the hotel’s login page).
I didn’t find an option in the app to temporarily remove Norton protection.

Only the “Ignore this network” option after uninstalling the Norton app enabled a new Wi-Fi connection.
Establishing a connection for the first time on this Wi-Fi network worked perfectly.

iPhone 15 Pro; iOS-Version: 18.1.1; iOS and all Apps are up to date

You mention logging into the hotel’s network. Are you asked for a password? If so, that is a secured network.

Being asked for a login each day may be a security feature the hotel uses. Have you asked the hotel if everyone gets logged out every day?

BTW the latest iOS version is 18.2

thank you for your answer. The Wi-Fi is just the SSID, without a password. If you select the network with this SSID, you will be taken to the login page for the first time. After entering some data, such as name, room number, etc., you get internet access for 24 hours. After this period, you must re-enter the data on the registration page. You obviously (presumably) only get access again if you are still a guest (I did not ask at the hotel). The problem was/ is that it was not possible to return again on the registration page. You don’t need an internet connection to get to the internal registration page. As Norton turned endlessly, it wasn’t possible for me to temporarily disable VPN; I didn’t get to this option.
Of course you are right, now the latest iOS version is 18.2, but this happend end of November.
At that moment, I verified the iOS version and all the Apps; all were up-to-date.

So have you run into this issue since November? It may have been something to do with the way the hotel’s was presenting the login.

If forgetting the network fixed the issue, it sounds more like an iOS issue.

no, it’s a misunderstanding; I had the problem for a few days at the end of November; Since then I’ve been back home on the home network, where everything works perfectly. In the meantime, I looked for solutions; Since I couldn’t find any, I contacted your community.

Please see above:
Only the “Ignore this network” option after uninstalling the Norton app enabled a new Wi-Fi connection.

I received a suggestion to activate airplane mode so that I could possibly deactivate Norton VPN. I will try this next time so that the problem is at least temporarily solved for me.
Best regards
Martin

Had you tried the Ignore this network option before uninstalling Norton?

No, I haven’t tried this option before uninstalling the Norton App

If you do run into this again, try Ignoring the network while you still have Norton installed. I still believe it was this iOS setting/feature that resolved your issue.

great - thank you very much for your suggestion. I would be happy to try this solution at the next opportunity.
Have a nice day
