Problems Installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

I first tried about 10 months ago to install Microsoft's Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. It goes a certain distance, and then I see "Access Denied". From web searching, I have learned that Norton is the likely cause.

Here is my Norton environment:

Norton System Works twenty-oh-six. I had planned to get twenty-oh-nine this year - July 6 is my anniversary date, but because my credit card number was on file (securely, I hope), it got automatically renewed a few weeks ago. So I will probably have to wait until twenty-ten to upgrade now. Anyway, that's probably a different issue.

Anti-virus protect from System Works is enabled.

Norton Save & Restore 2.0 "ready".

Norton GoBack from System Works is disabled.

I would like suggestions on how to get this install to work, preferably:

1. Without uninstalling any Norton product.

2. Without upgrading at this time to Norton System Works twenty-oh-nine.

Included in an ideal response would be how to exit the aforementioned products. My twenty-oh-six interface for Norton Protection Center does not show an Exit option. An ideal response would also be light on abbreviations and emoticons and use reasonably proper punctuation and upper/lower case.

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.
