Problems removing and reinstalling Norton 360

Hi all

I booted up my PC this morning only to receive a Norton message saying that there was something wrong with a 'DING' file ( whatever that is! ) and recommending that I remove and reinstall Norton 360.

I then downloaded the tool to do this but, when running, it then error messages that it cannot "gather details about the installed layout or license" and asking me to click "here" to do so manually.

Unfortunately that only takes me to the Norton page asking me to download the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool!

SO - as I've still got something like 150 days of license left how best to resolve this?  If I remove Norton 360 using the Windows programme removal, would I be able to download and reinstall a replacement without losing my license details? Could I do this through my Norton account?

I don't have an installation disc as I downlosded the software from the Norton website.

With Norton not appearing to be running, I have the obvious concerns about whether or not my PC is protected.

I use Windows 7 64 bit and up until yesterday all was fine!

Many thanks

TIngers

Hi Tingers,

Please tell us which edition of N 360 (Standard or Premiere) and also the version (from the Main page select Support > About).

DING is normally concerned with the data migration during a product upgrade, however I have seen the DING file error thrown in the past.  Did it stae anymore more, perhaps something like dimaster.dll?  The exact error wording wuld be helpful.

Running the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool will automatically remove your old copy of N 360, and download, install and activate the latest copy of N 360.  Please be sure to Export your ID Safe Data prior to running the tool as a precaution.  You should not lose any settings or your ID Safe Data, but this is the safest way.

You will not need an installation disk, nor your product key when running the above tool.

We'll discuss other options once we see if the above toll does the job.  You should not lose your license details.

Please try this first and let us know how things go.
