I'm hoping someone can help me. A few days ago we got a message telling us there was a product upgrade, so we downloaded and installed it. Once the install had finished it asked for the Product Key number to activate it. After entering the product key, it said that we had exceed the maximum installs and had to purchase another Product Key. I'm not particularly impressed about this as the current expiration date of our NIS is Nov 2012. We have one license for one computer, and the upgrade was on that one computer so we definitely haven't exceed the number of machines.
After having a search of the forums I found a number of people suggested running the Norton Removal Tool. I've done this twice but I am still getting the same message upon entering the Key number.
We've been using Norton since Nov 2007 and this is the first time we've had difficulties with an upgrade. I'm hoping its a quick fix and just something that I've overlooked.
I contacted Live Chat and Sunil was able to correct the problem in seconds. It seems that although we only have NIS on one computer, we've used the Activiation Key too many times on this machine. Sunil was able to correct this almost instantly.
Very happy, and 10/10 for superb customer support!
That's strange... I thought that you can install NIS as many times as you want on one computer and that it only looks if the system is the same or that the pc is another one?!

That is correct, certainly as far as the licence is concerned, but we are dealing with computers that have problems with the simple everyday things of life.
Sometimes the central database system recognizes the hardware and doesn't notch up an activation; sometimes it slips.
But as pbaker found out the Norton OnLine Support Team are adept at sorting this out for users ....
Just while on the topic, Norton have confirmed that multiple boot systems with one product installed several times only require one activation count so if this does not happen for anyone they can contact Support also.
