Problems with email programs after downloading Norton Security Suite

I apologize in advance if this has already been solved, but I've spent 40 minutes reading through various forums and haven't found anything close, at least from my newbie point of view.

I recently downloaded Norton Security Suite available through Comcast.  In order to do so I had to remove the "trial" 2011 Norton program that was pre-loaded on my laptop when I bought it.  Everything seemed to be working well until I logged in to my email accounts.

Gmail now looks different and acts sluggish, but at least I can read and reply to emails.  Outlook (formerly hotmail) loads and I can see the emails but I can't open them or do anything else other than log off, really.

I've tried temporarily disabling the firewall and email scanner, both to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!  I uninstalled it using the control panel, though I just read I might also need to use a removal tool?  It was the Norton Internet Security 2011, not sure about exact details.

You can download and run the Norton Removal Tool from here   www.norton.com/nrt

After running that it is possible you may have to uninstall and reinstall your Norton Security Suite.

Let us know if you need any more help.

Thanks.  I've tried that twice (uninstall from control panel and use the removal tool), then re-install and I still have issues with email.  Is there anything else I can try?

Are you sure there were no other security programs ever installed on your computer?

Not as far as I know.  I do have Juniper Networks installed in order to work remotely, but I don't think that includes a security program?   I may check with the IT dept. on Monday, but at this point I'm not sure I can keep Norton on my laptop.

Your original post indicates that Gmail looks different. What is different, and when did the look change?

With Gmail the main thing that changed is the display of the emails.  I have a theme background for the inbox, and before it would add white/beige behind each email thread so I could read it (the scenes are often dark).  The screenshot below is a little better because the background happens to be blue, but some are black/dark.  When I log in on another computer the setting is still there.

My main concern though is my hotmail/outlook account.  I can't do anything other than select options from the top right hand side.  What's weird is that my other hotmail account that hasn't migrated over to outlook works fine.  So it might be something in the settings of the new outlook.  A screen shot of hotmail/outlook is below.

PROBLEM RESOLVED!

After searching some more and putting 2 and 2 together I realized that I should try updating my IE.  And voila! It worked!  It just so happened that the issues started the day I downloaded Norton, which was weeks after both accounts upgraded to a new version.

Thanks for all of the help and advice, I look forward to using Norton moving forward!

Glad you found the solution.

We often have to look outside the (Norton) box.
