Problems with my USB 2 GB Sony Flash memory

Dear Friends

I would like to ask your help. I am having trouble with my USB memory stick. It was a working properly two weeks ago but when I returned to work It does not.

I get the following message:

“Drive G it is not formatted, Do you want to format it now?”

I do not like to do this because I nee the information storage on it but I tried to format it as last option but it even was not possible.

I tried with Norton Disk Doctor but not success. I hope you can help me. But going to “properties window” it says that device is working properly.

Antivirus software also do not detect any threat.

I will appreciate any help from you

Fisrt please answere these questions:

1. Is it doing it on every PC (at work, at home, at your friends, ...etc)?

2. When the AV scan is running, can it detect every files it was/is on it?

3. On what operating systems did you use it (if you used differnet ones at home and at work, please write it us too).

4. Is there a little button on the stick which turnes the memory unwritable/unreadable? Sometimes it can "turn on" in your pocket accidentally...

5. After the format could you opend after it the drive?

6. And how did you performed the format (in a cmd window, or using window's graphical interface)?

7. When you wrote that format wasn't possible, did you get any error?

Thanks your answeres. ;)

Dear Friend Tank you so much for a prompt reply to my concern. Please the answers to your question are as follows:  1. Is it doing it on every PC (at work, at home, at your friends, …etc)? Yes, It is not possible to read the device in any PC. 2. When the AV scan is running, can it detect every files it was/is on it? After checking with PC, the message says no threat found. 3. On what operating systems did you use it (if you used different ones at home and at work, please write it us too)? Windows XP 4. Is there a little button on the stick which turnes the memory unwritable/unreadable? Sometimes it can “turn on” in your pocket accidentally… No it does not.  5. After the format could you opend after it the drive? I did not format it. I just tried but no success. 6. And how did you performed the format (in a cmd window, or using window’s graphical interface)? I just use the as similar as to format a floppy disk. 7. When you wrote that format wasn’t possible, did you get any error? Yes, device could not be formatted.

Hi Juferoca68,

May be the flash drive is dead or damaged beyond recovery now, as you are unable to read the device in any of the computers. Try to format using the following steps:

1. Click StartRun.

2. Type the following and click OK.

diskmgmt.msc
3. Right-click on USB drive and select Format.

If you still have problem, contact the USB manufacturer.

I ment that did the scan showed any files it has scanned (not the threats, the actual files on your drive), like it scanned 2850 file, and 0 viruses.

If yogesh's method won't work (it must!) you could try format it this way too:

Start Menu -> Run: type cmd, and hit enter.

In the opened command promt type format x: (x is the letter of your pendrive), and hit enter.

This is not a Norton problem. However, you can try the following tools to format the USB drive.

Hi

The website of the manufacturer of your Flash drive should have the tool(s)  to re format / repartition the flash drive.

Generally the tool for this from one company won't work on another companies drive.  Yes I have come across this myself, the Drive owner tends to think the likes of the Flash drive is stuffed when a lot of the time it is not.
