Problems with NIS 2011 and Outlook Express

I just bought and installed NIS 2011 onto my XP Pro machine.  I have a couple problems with it and Outlook Express 6.  Whenever I close Outlook Express I get the following error message:

DirectDBNotifyWndProc: msimn.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x603478f4" referenced memory at "0x603478f4". The memory could not be "read".  Click OK to terminate the program.

This of course halts system shut-down if I have not already manually shut down Outlook Express and clicked the OK button on that error dialog.

Second problem: the NIS antispam component is flagging spam messages with the correct subject prefix ([Norton AntiSpam]) but the emails are not being moved to the antispam folder.  Strictly speaking that's OK with me since I prefer that they just be deleted - I always double-check my Deleted folder before emptying it.  But when I checked my OE message rules the new rule "Auto Generated Norton AntiSpam Rule" is present at the top and checked.  It has the right condition set and has the action set to move flagged items to the spam folder.  It just isn't doing it.  The rule is locked at the top and I can neither move, edit nor delete it.  I absolutely HATE software that **bleep**s my system like this (makes changes that I should be able to alter but prevents me from doing so).  In addition, now when I create a new message rules I cannot use spaces in the rule names whereas I formerly could.

Please advise.
