Problems with NIS 2012

Hi,

I recently received a message to say that my Norton 360 product was about to expire so I checked out the available products on the website. I decided that I couldn’t afford the Norton 360 renewal cost and opted for the Norton Internet Security 2012. I paid for this product online and clicked download. I got a message to say it was uninstalling my previous Norton product and then got a message to say installation was successful.

However I was unable to open the Norton Internet Security 2012 and also when I clicked on Internet Explorer I got a message saying that “internet explorer cannot display the webpage”. Firstly I tried restarting the computer which didn't help. Then I uninstalled the product which gave me internet access back but I had no active anti-virus software running.

Then I downloaded the Norton remove and reinstall tool. This said “failed to detect any supported Norton Product” so I logged into my account online and downloaded Norton Internet Security 2012 again.

This led to the same problem again with loss of IE and not being able to open Norton, so I ran the Norton remove and reinstall program again. I got a message that said “failed to detect and Norton product that could be automatically upgraded”. I then had an error message appear saying “Norton Internet Security has encountered an error. Error: 8506, 422” I clicked on the Open Support Web Site button but of course the internet was not working. I uninstalled the program again so that I could get internet access back and look at the support section online, but again I had to run the system without any active anti-virus software. From what I can see the support section tells me to do everything that I have done so far but it has not worked. Please can anyone advise me of what steps I can take next as I am concerned about my computer being attacked.

My operating system is Windows Vista

Thanks
