Process Updates failed

Hello, I just got an hp dm1z notebook last week. It has a Windows 7 professional 64 bit operating system. When I purchased it, I bought a 3 year Norton Internet Security subscription. I haven’t entered that subscription product key information yet, so the computer is currently just running the free 60 day subscription that it came with. I noticed that the NIS screen states that it’s been about 160 days since the last update. Yesterday the NIS icon indicated that it was out of date and needed to be updated. I started updating and it will go through the “check for updates” and slowly go through “download updates” (it has about 105 mb to download). It has failed to complete the “process updates” section the two or three times I have tried this. I’m not around that computer now, but I will try to find more information about the error message and what version I am running. Thanks for any input on this issue.
