Product Activation/ license already in use after NIS 2011 update

Greetings & happy new year,

I have updated NIS from 2010 to 2011 on 1 PC successfully, (this is my purchased NIS 360 license for 3 PC's, have 160 days remaining).

However, when I updated my 2nd PC, (same process, where I clicked on the Pop-up "NIS 2011 is ready to install").

NIS now says I have "used all my licenses" and I am unable to use NIS without having to re-purchase another license.

This is the exact same PC? Why would the license be already in use?

1. How do I fix this without a complete uninstall and reinstall of NIS?

2. If a complete uninstall and reinstall is required, how can I retrieve my license when NIS says I've already used it on 3 PC'S?

It is the same 3 PC's, I do not want to purchase another license.

Also, I still have a laptop to update to NIS 2011.

3.How will I know my license will not carry over like the 2nd PC?

I do not want  to uninstall and reinstall unless this is the ONLY option.

Unsuccessful PC, WinXP Home, SP3

Successful PC, Win7Ultimate

Un-tried laptop, WinXP Tablet

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks

Anita

Hi Allen,

Thanks for the reply.

Apologies for the confusion, to clarify: I have N360 for my 3 home machines (but I also have NIS for a separate work machine no problems with that one, works perfect).

The machine that has the N360 2011 (version 18.5.0.125) installed successfully is running Win7 Ultimate 32bit.

Having no problems with this machine, works perfect.

The problem machine is running WinXP Home Ed with SP3. (I can't check the version, the activation window always appears).

My norton account says "Norton 360, expired (even though I have 160 days remaining), protection for 3 PCs, Remaining activations None) - just wondering why it's not now recognising the WinXP machine license after the update, it's so weird, it's the exact same 3 machines? Nothing else has been changed, except the update from N360.

There are no Dual boot / multiple OS on any of my home machines.

I'll try chatting with the Customer support, will let you know how it goes.

Cheers

Anita.

>> This version number correlates to NIS, not N360. Can you confirm when you bring up the user interface window? It should show Norton Internet Security.

>> Is N360 expired the only thing you have shown in your account? Did you register NIS and N360 with a different Norton Account / email address? It sounds like you might be installing the wrong product.

Hi Anita,

Thanks for the update. Please see above.

If you have two Norton Accounts / email addresses it may be that you are trying to activate using the wrong account. Also, are you sure you are installing the correct product for the license you have?

Please confirm on all the computers what the user interface reports. For the one that is asking for activation, what exactly does it say on the screen? Please post a screen shot by following the guidelines from this link.

Please also report full version numbers for your Norton software on each computer.

Best wishes.

Allen
