hi rolls63 - just confirming your configuration... you are using a client pop3 email client to get your gmail email (poet and i didn't know it). you are used to seeing the norton "scanning incoming mail" progress indicator, but it doesn't show up after changing from yahoo(!) to gmail (when it was working fine). I'm not sure, but i wonder if norton email scanning is port 80 specific... remember hearing this some time long ago... anyone know?

Hi Mel,
Yes, using outlook 2007 to access gmail via pop3. The sending port is 467 if I remember correctly, using ssl encryption. It was the sending progress indicator that I used to see on yahoo mail, using the default port 25 for sending. Then orange or yahoo did something that stopped that working. ( orange is my internet supplier which forces you to use their own smtp server settings.
Hope that helps,
Rollers
Hi rolls63,
The email scanning component of Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security does not support POP3 email clients that use SSL. There is no way for the program to decrypt the encrypted messages.
Since it is not supported, the reason that you are not seeing the progress indicator is because the email is not being scanned.
