Protection against email or messaging spam or malware non-existent?

Just bought Norton Security Deluxe, installed it on my Mac running El Capitan and Office For Mac 2016, and...nothing installed in OutLook or Mac Mail or Messages.  Doesn't this product provide mail/message protection?!?!?!
