protection against or own behavior?

NAV2008  Vista OS with Vista Service pack 1

After all this time, I'm finally getting a grasp on the layer of protection concept. Just wondering how protective it is versus one's own "dumb" behavior.  Unfortunately for my wife, having to put up with my paranoia regarding the internet, maleware  and safety issues, she tends to blow off anything I may say regarding safe browsing habits. While I'm cautious and tend to not go to sites I don't know and being very careful about what I click, she doesn't share the same mind set. She does a google search and just clicks on any links that come up. She does the facebook thing and I swear she has taken some of those quizes that pop up there (like pandaquiz.net and all)

She also has a bunch of friends who are always sending those little email things animations that come from like jibjab. I think if she gets a pop up box she clicks the red x on the box whereas I either right click close from the bottom tab or even use the task manager function to close the IE7

So she is the complete opposite of me. She thinks as long as you don't do porn, all is ok.

SO my question- Does the layer of protection that NAV2008 has stop infection (of known items) when one does such foolish behavior as I outlined above? I mean there has to be a limit as to how much NAV2008 can protect one from one's own stupidity, right?
