First, thank you for responding so quickly, second, sorry for not providing more info. NIS 2008, OS is Windows XP SP2. Trying to download SP3.  I do not recieve error messages. The Help and Tools, I didn't know it had to be activated, so no help there. There's the answers to your questions. Anything else?

No problem.

Does the Protection Updates Date change?

When did you install N.I.S. 2008?

You need to end the LUCOM~1.exe from Task Manager. Before that turn off Turn On Protection for Norton Products.

Open Norton product> Click on Norton Internet Security/Norton Antivirus tab> Click settings> Click Norton Internet Security/Norton Antivirus options at the bottom> now uncheck Turn On Protection for Norton Products

Now open Task Manager< Under processes tab, end the process LUCOM~1.exe.

Now make sure that your system date and time are correct. Run LiveUpdate. Let us know if you receive any error message or error code.

If you have a valid subscription for your Norton 2008 version, the best thing you can do is to upgrade to your Norton product to the 2009 version. This is absolutely free.

If you wish to do so, please visit Upgrade Center

I installed NIS 08 in Nov. ‘07 or Jan.’ 08. Also have NSWB. I don’t bother with it much. Sorry I don’t follow you on Protection Updates date changes. Thanks for replying.

I have a RED ! in my system tray. When I check (the past 2 days) everything is OK except Protection Updates. I click on it and it tells me the updates are out of date I click on Run Liveupdates and it tells me its" running in the background. Please wait a few minutes before running again."  Nothing has been resolved. I’ve ran a quick system scan as I also did 10/2/08. I would like this resolved please. Help! Thank you.

N.SW.B.E.?

It should say: "Protection Updates - 03/10/2008" in the N.I.S. tab; what is the Date shown?

I’ve turned off the protection. I can’t seem to remember how to get to Task Manager,Help! Please. Thank you for your help.

Start -> Run... and type "taskmgr" (without the parentheses). Then hit Enter.

The program should be located in the list on the Processes tab.

Where did you get this information?

Do you mean Protection Updates or all Features of N.I.S.?  If so, there should be a "FIX NOW" button just under the Security Status.

NSWBE is Norton System Works Basic Edition. The date on the Protection is 9/23/08

Please try this:

- How to re-install LiveUpdate.

What does this do and would LuComServer_3_ be the same thing?

You done that yet (above)?

I wanted to let you know that the green solution is an accident. Wasn’t  corrected this way. I was finally able to get on computer because of other problems with it. BUT, the solution was to turn off Protection for Norton Products and the go to Task Manager and delete ALL LUcom. I was able to run Live update and I have a big green check on Norton. Now I am very happy. Thanks for you help greatly appreciated.

Nevermind what the User said about it being "an accident".  ;)

Anyway, if you tried what I suggested, that would have probably sorted your Issue anyway.  :D

Red,

I did not have to rein stall. But...I just noticed my NIS in my taskbar just disappered. I just had to click on the Icon and it is now back on taskbar. Very, very strange.  Can I ask you how can you check for the updates "version"??? I remember being able to in years gone by but don't remember how. Thanks

What Norton Product is it, N.I.S. 2008?

Have you ran the Auto-Fix Tool via "? Help & Support"?

What is your O.S. and S.P.?

Also, do you get any Error Messages?  If so, Post the E.M./Number here.  Check your Activity Log, Errors.
