I have a couple of question about pulse updates in NIS 2009.
1) When I see in NIS 2009 summery screen (last updated 9 mins ago etc) does that mean it just Checked for updates 9 mins ago or actually got updated 9 mins ago? (I would be amazed if there are updates being released that often as when I am surfing its very regularly updating!)
2) Is there a way to see the latest defs number in NIS 2009. I checked in Help and 'about' but could only see the program version in there?
In addition to the protection updates that Automatic LiveUpdate downloads, Norton 2009 program uses streaming technology to download the latest virus definitions. These downloads are called Pulse Updates. The Pulse Updates are lighter and faster, and keep your computer secure from the ongoing threats on the World Wide Web. Pulse Updates checks for protection updates every few minutes and downloads the streamed virus definitions. Pulse Updates provides the updates in between the full updates, which LiveUpdate downloads automatically every eight hours. It protects you against the rapidly changing environment of security threats without compromising your system.
I don't think that there is a way to view the latest definition number in Norton 2009. But, the information regarding the pulse update is always visible in the main interface and if any critical update is needed, it may prompt you to run LiveUpdate.
NIS is not like other av’s. If you click Live Update and there is no updates then you have the latest. NIS 2009 is fully self substantiating. Leave it be and no worries.
